Customer-facing jobs have not been finding many takers off late
₹20,000-25,000 or less, with the rigors of big-city life thrown in, many don’t think the deal is worthwhile. Attrition rates in customer-facing roles have been observed to go beyond 40% in sectors like retail and banking, financial services and insurance, and employers should be thankful that the country has so many fresh graduates looking for jobs each year. But why do so many quit within months? One probable reason for the lost appeal of customer-centric roles is the fading buzz of sectors that offer most such jobs.

New-age endorsement deals: Virtual influencers now making real money
social media influencers, Kyra and Naina have hit the big time. Only thing is, they’re not actually real, not entirely anyway. Titan, RealMe, MG Motors and Boat are paying a premium to advertise through 3D-animated humans or virtual influencers, who have become quite the phenomena on Instagram with views of up to 21 million for their reels. Kyra is the handiwork of Futr Studios. The virtual character works with brands such as Titan and Boat and is paid more than real-life influencers with similar follower numbers. Naina by Avtr Meta Labs will soon launch her first AI podcast series with actors such as Richa Chadha, Sanya Malhotra, Sobhita Dhulipala and Hansika Motvani. While Kyra is a fully 3D-animated character, Naina is more of a hybrid--a face superimposed over a real human.

This dichotomy is particularly relevant in the context of innovation, especially when considering the role of patents. Patents are commonly seen as a measure of a country’s innovative capacity.

Crime-master Gogo Kejriwal: BJP spokesperson points out irregularities at Delhi Jal Board's STP upgradation by AAP
Gaurav Bhatia accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday of being 'crime master Gogo', a fictional character who dupes people and accused the AAP government of discrepancies in the Delhi Jal Board's (DJB) tendering process for upgrading its sewage treatment plants. Questioning the AAP government's silence on the Delhi Jal Board scam, BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia said, «There are many illegalities in the said scam, but the 'crime-master' Gogo (Arvind Kejriwal) will not speak a word on corruption-related matters.» Bhatia said ten sewage treatment plants in the city were divided into two categories and only upgradation was to be done in the first category, while in the second category, the work was related to increasing the capacity. Addressing the media, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said, «If there is any politician in India who has mastered the art of corruption, lies, and deceit then it is Arvind Kejriwal...»

Karate Kid: More than 10,000 kids apply within 24 hours of casting call
Ralph Macchio, Hilary Swank, and Jaden Smith. Just this week, Macchio and Jackie Chan revealed their collaboration on a new Karate Kid film. The significant news, however, is Sony Pictures launching a global search for the film's young co-star. Remarkably, within a mere 24 hours of the announcement, there were 10,000 submissions to the open casting call, as reported by THR. The Karate Kid team is seeking a «smart, scrappy, and skilled martial artist» aged between 15-17, capable of portraying Chinese or mixed-race Chinese. Proficiency in English is essential, and conversational Mandarin is a plus. The chosen actor will have the perfect mentor in Macchio, who originally did the role of Daniel LaRusso in the 1984 film «The Karate Kid» and its sequels, as well as the ongoing Netflix series Cobra Kai. On the other hand, Chan portrayed Mr. Han, mentoring Jaden Smith's Dre Parker in the 2010 remake of «The Karate Kid.” Jonathan Entwistle directs the sixth installment of Karate Kid, scripted by Rob Lieber, hitting theaters on December 13, 2024. Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, known for their roles in different „Karate Kid“ films released years apart, are set to collaborate in an upcoming martial arts franchise movie. Produced by Karen Rosenfelt, directed by Jonathan Entwistle, and written by Rob Lieber, this Sony Pictures production is scheduled to hit theaters on December 13, 2024.

BBC Saturday Kitchen chef and restaurateur Russell Norman dies
Russell Norman has died following a brief illness. He was 57. The news comes at the heels of his fourth cookbook that was published recently. His business partner Richard Beatty while announcing the death of his “best friend” expressed grief in a heartfelt statement. The cause of the TV chef's death remains undisclosed. Russell was known for his Italian-inspired cuisine. He had left an indelible mark on the food industry with multiple successful restaurants and cookbooks throughout his illustrious career. Born in Perivale, Russell spent his childhood in Hounslow before pursuing studies at Sunderland Polytechnic. Reflecting on his formative years, he shared his experiences with Food and Travel magazine in 2021, describing his return to London after working in the North East as a community arts officer. Russell Norman gained widespread recognition for establishing the POLPO chain of eateries, along with the successful ventures of Spuntino and Polpetto. His legacy will endure through BRUTTO, his laid-back Italian restaurant in Farringdon, which will continue operations under the stewardship of Russell's son, Ollie, and daughter-in-law, Jules, according to Restaurant Magazine. In a 2018 revelation, Russell disclosed that one of his cherished family cooking traditions was preparing baked potatoes. He described a simple yet comforting dish, featuring tinned tuna, sweetcorn, mayonnaise on one half, and baked beans on the other, occasionally adding a touch of flair with a homemade coleslaw. The inspiration behind his restaurant menus, he noted, came from «the 95-year-old Italian granny.»
