Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of former State Bank of India (SBI) deputy managing director (DMD) Salee Sukumaran Nair for a three year term, the bank in a stock market notice. Nair retired from SBI as DMD and chief credit officer (CCO) as recently as May this year. He takes over from S Krishnan who had resigned in September 2023 just a week after the bank wrongly credited Rs 9,000 crore to a Chennai cab driver. Krishnan was asked to continue till a replacement was found even as there was a lot of too and fro for contenders between the bank and the RBI.

Deutsche Bank has appointed Manik Chhabra as its head of global corporate coverage for India and Sri Lanka, starting August 19, sources aware of the development said. Chhabra is moving to the German bank from US-based lender Citibank where he held many senior corporate banking roles over the last 22 years. He leaves Citibank as India head for mid corporates. A Deutsche Bank spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.

Optiemus Infracom is looking to raise around Rs400 crore to expand its manufacturing business and enhance its brand image ahead of a planned foray into making and selling screen protectors and mobile phone cover glass under a licence from US-based Corning. The company, in a stock exchange filing, said the fund-raise will be done through preferential allotment of 75 lakh convertible warrants, convertible in one or more tranches into equity shares of RS 10 each, within 18 months into equity shares. The funds are going to be used in expanding the company's manufacturing business and for marketing spends. The company is planning to expand its manufacturing business to make laptops and notebooks under the IT hardware production-linked incentive scheme, according to industry executives who are aware of the matter. It is currently in talks with a global brand and is expected to start manufacturing for them in the next 3-6 months.

As many as 27.8% of undergraduate (UG) medical students and 15.3% of post graduate students (PG) suffer from mental health disorder, says a survey conducted by India’s apex medical education regulator. Of the 37,962 participants surveyed by the the National Medical Commission (NMC), 16.2% UG students and 31.23% PG students have suicidal ideas. The reasons for such mental health disorders include the pressure of paying educational loans and debt (32.7%), students facing ragging (18%), sub-par hostel facilities (41.6%), and lack of privacy (33.7%).

Cognizant Technology Solutions is said to have handed out annual salary hikes as low as 1% to some of its employees as the global technology services giant rolled out increments after deferring them by four months. The hikes are as low as 1% and the highest is said to be 5%, at least two people aware of the development told ET on the condition of anonymity. “For a rating of 3, the hike is around 1-3% while a 4 rating has been granted a 4% hike and a 5 rating to an employee is paid an increment of around 4.5% and at the most 5%,” one of the persons said.

Swiggy has started charging its service fee on the gross order value, which includes GST and packaging charges too, from restaurants outside metro cities as well. This will effectively increase the commission its restaurant partners in such markets pay. Previously, the service fee — or commission — was levied on the net value for restaurants in smaller cities and towns, while those in large cities were already charged on the gross value. “Effective 14 August (Wednesday), we shall be charging service fee on the gross value of each order as defined under our merchant terms. This change is being implemented across the platform for all our partners to ensure uniformity in our commission structure. This change will marginally increase the service fee payable to us,” Swiggy said in a letter to its restaurant partners. ET has seen a copy of the letter.
