More Indians fall head over heels for condom variants
condom category seems to have spiced up its growth rate, which nearly doubled in 2023. The Rs 1,755 crore segment grew to a five-year high last year at 13% by value compared with 7% in 2022, according to the latest IQVIA consumer health retail audit data sourced from executives. Companies said the segment is shifting away from being used for just protection to enhancing the experience. “Condoms were always sold from a safety perspective and youth felt the product was a hindrance for pleasure,” said Rajeev Juneja, managing director and vice chairman of Mankind Pharma, the maker of Manforce condoms, which has a 30.1% share. “So innovations have really helped attract younger consumers to the category. Also, women too now decide on the variants, unlike the historical trend of men being the sole decision makers.”

Apple faces legal setback as US Judge denies dismissal in AirTag stalking case
Apple was aware of the potential risks associated with its AirTags and could be held legally accountable under California law for harm caused by the misuse of the tracking devices. In the surviving claims, the plaintiffs argued that the AirTag's safety features were lacking and contributed to their injuries during instances of stalking. Judge Chhabria acknowledged these concerns, stating that Apple's argument about the design of the AirTag's safety measures could not be conclusively determined at this early stage.

The Photogate embarrassment of the British royal family reflects a wider malaise
Princess of Wales with her three children. As it turns out, she clumsily edited a family photo hurriedly taken by her husband and put it out on social media. The image was promptly scrutinised by millions of eyes and many embarrassing errors were pointed out, leading to its withdrawal by major news agencies. She issued a statement owning up to the careless editing attempt but ended up stoking even more malicious and wild speculation about not only her health but also her marriage. Their family, of course, is not an ordinary one like ours are. The British royals are subject to far more inspection and judgement than we all are and must be aware of it. Yet they still try to act «normal», which in this case meant posting a picture perfect family photo for Mother's Day. They were not the only ones to put up lovely, laughing photos with the kids for the occasion. Millions did. It almost seemed as if not posting photos may have led to similar speculation in their own much smaller social (media) circles about the absence. That is what probably prompted the Waleses to post that hasty photo even though the princess is recuperating from surgery and may not have felt like getting dressed up (even in jeans and jacket) to be photographed.

If Companies Are So Focused on Cybersecurity, Why Are Data Breaches Still Rising?
Stuart Madnick is the John Norris Maguire Professor of Information Technologies at the MIT Sloan School of Management and the founding director of the Cybersecurity at MIT Sloan (CAMS) research consortium. Organizations are spending more money than ever on cybersecurity—an estimated $188 billion globally in 2023, a figure expected to grow to almost $215 billion in 2024—yet hackers always seem to stay a step ahead. The number of reported data breaches in the U.S. rose to a record 3,205 in 2023, up 78% from 2022 and 72% from the previous high-water mark in 2021, according to the nonprofit Identity Theft Resource Center.

CT in Pakistan: ICC will never ask BCCI to go against its own government's policy
Champions Trophy in Pakistan remains an option as India's participation cannot be decided by the ICC if there is a government policy against it, a source in the governing body's all-powerful executive board told PTI on Friday. The ICC board meeting is currently underway in Dubai. The Champions Trophy, which will be held in February-March 2025, is not on the agenda but newly-elected PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has stated that he wants to speak with his BCCI counterpart Jay Shah as well as ICC bigwigs on the sidelines, seeking some kind of assurance. However, an ICC Board member, who is privy to the developments, feels that any decision by BCCI, will only be taken closer to the tournament and once again, the idea of using UAE as a potential venue cannot be entirely discarded.

A comical effort by China’s intelligence agency
Foreign spies are lurking everywhere! So says the Chinese government. Officials were ruffled by the CIA’s claim, made last year, that it was rebuilding its spy networks in China a decade after most of its sources disappeared. But China’s reaction seems defined more by paranoia than vigilance.

Centre in talks with banks to stop fertiliser subsidy funding
fertiliser subsidy receivables. This follows the government's move to offer direct benefit transfer (DBT) to fertiliser companies based on actual sales of retailers to beneficiaries. Currently, a special exemption is given by the Reserve Bank of India, which allows banks to finance fertiliser subsidy receivables for a period of 60 days. «This was meant to be a short-term measure. It is being reviewed, but no final decision has been made. We have received some suggestions from banks, and those are being examined,» said an official aware of the matter. Under the fertiliser DBT system, 100% subsidy on various fertiliser grades is released to fertiliser companies based on actual sales made by the retailers to the beneficiaries.
