Government didn't participate in any exercise related to Corruption Perception Index: Centre in RS
government of India did not participate in any exercise related to the Corruption Perception Index, and took various measures to combat graft in pursuance of its commitment to "zero tolerance against corruption", the Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday. The assertion came in response to a question whether the «government is aware that India's score on the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2024 declined to 38 points, ranking 96th out of 180 countries, as per the Transparency International report», and reasons behind it, among others. In a written reply, Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said, «No such surveys were conducted by any agency at the behest of the government of India.» Further, the government of India did not participate in any such exercise related to the Corruption Perception Index, Singh said. However, the government of India, in pursuance of its commitment to «zero tolerance against corruption», has taken several measures to combat corruption, which include systemic improvements and reforms to provide transparent citizen-friendly services and reduce corruption, the minister said. He cited the disbursement of welfare benefits directly to the citizens under various schemes of the government in a transparent manner through the direct benefit transfer (DBT) mode, implementation of e-tendering in public procurements, introduction of e-governance and simplification of procedures and systems besides the introduction of procurement through the government e-marketplace (GeM), as measures to check corruption.

Sushant Singh Rajput's father, KK Singh on Thursday supported the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Disha Salian's father seeking a probe into his daughter's death, as he expressed hope that a conclusion could be reached on both the incidents. «I don't know his reasons and motivation for moving the court, but what he has done is right and if through this we can get a conclusion on whether it was a suicide or murder, and in this Sushant's case can also be known on what happened,» KK Singh told ANI. Earlier on March 19, Disha Salian's father had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court, seeking a probe into his daughter's death and called for interrogating UBT Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray. Talking to further, Singh said he is not aware of the reasons Salian's father moved the court, as earlier the latter had also agreed the death was by suicide. «Before (Disha) Salian's father had said he doesn't know anything, it is suicide only, but after that how and what he researched to say it is not a suicide but a murder, that I do not know. If it is true or not how can I say?» Sushant Singh Rajput's father added.

Saurabh’s mother, Renu Devi, is demanding the death penalty for both. Saurabh had been missing since March 4. The crime came to light when laborers, hired to move a heavy drum from the couple’s rented house, found it unusually heavy. 'Married At First Sight' bride Jacqui Burfoot's home revealed to be Airbnb property
Airbnb property passed off as the real home of a Married At First Sight contestant has led to a massive controversy. Married At First Sight bride Jacqui Burfoot's «home» on the show was found to be not her own but actually a rented residence for just one night. Even as the controversy over her rented two-storey «home» erupted, the 29-year-old Jacqui also found herself in an embarrassing situation in the latest episode of the show aired on Monday (March 17). During the episode while she was filmed speaking to her TV husband Ryan Donnelly in her home in Sydney, several viewers took to social media with screenshots of the show to point out that her nostrils were not clean. «Jacqui has a boogie in her right nostril,» read one of the social media posts by a viewer. Several fans also stated that show producers and the camera crews should have alerted her about the unclean nose. But the social media trolling over Jacqui's nose seemed to be only a sideshow to the bigger storm brewing around her rented residential property. According to a report by Daily Mail Australia, Jacqui's massive property, which she presented as her residence, was in reality a rented Airbnb. Jacqui had taken Donnelly to her «home» in the show and gave him a tour of the same on Monday.

Starlink readies road for India’s strong connectivity
Starlink may offer massive satellite connectivity — a few terabytes per second of data throughput — in India, with a large amount of it already in place and can be provided immediately to customers once all the necessary approvals are obtained, people aware of the details told ET. The Starlink capacity is expected to be 80-90 times more than that of rivals Eutelsat OneWeb or Reliance Jio-SES, which could offer only 30-50 gigabits per second (Gbps), the people said. The Elon Musk-owned satellite communication company plans to set up three gateways — in Mumbai, Pune and Indore — and one point of presence in Mumbai to cater to the India market, they said. While gateways act as a bridge between a satellite and the terrestrial communication network, transmitting data between the two, the point of presence is also a key pillar for the network, though much smaller in size and scale.

State Bank of India shelves $1.7 bn fund raising as yields elevated, sources say
