Even at this age...: Sunil Gavaskar's big statement on MS Dhoni's retirement
Sunil Gavaskar brushed off speculations regarding Indian legend MS Dhoni's retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL), and said every time people raise this question, the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain proves them wrong. Lauding Dhoni, he said age is just a number for him, and he still has the ability to hit the ball into the stands «Why should we even ask that question? Why put pressure on him? Every time people question MS Dhoni, he proves them wrong. Don't doubt his ability. Even at this age, he's hitting sixes not just past the boundary but into the stands during practice. Age is just a number when it comes to Dhoni,» Gavaskar, who is a Jio Star expert said on Jio Hotstar. The former India captain also spoke about the attacking mindset displayed by batters in the IPL he said they understand how to catch the powerplay when only two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle. He also talked about batters' mindstep of scoring 10-12 runs per over which gives their team a strong platform for 180-200 runs. «Batters are getting more adventurous and aggressive. They understand that the powerplay--where only two fielders are outside the inner circle--must be capitalized on. You have to aim for 10-12 runs per over and reach around 60-75 runs in the first six overs, even if you lose just one wicket. That creates a strong platform to push towards 180-200 runs.» he added.

IPL 2025: RCB restrict Rahane-led KKR at 174 in opening clash at Eden Gardens
Kolkata Knight Riders, setting a target of 175 for Rajat Patidar-led Royal Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Despite Kolkata started on a weak note with South Africa's Quinton de Kock wicket in the first over of the opener, skipper Rahane came to the rescue and formed a strong partnership with Sunil Narine. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane made a wonderful 56 but defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders could only manage a sub-par 174 for eight against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening match of the IPL 2025 here on Saturday. Rahane made his fifty off just 31 balls and shared a 103-run stand for the second wicket with Sunil Narine (44, 26b) as at one stage KKR looked to break the 200-run margin with ease. However, RCB bowlers led by left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya (3/29) staged a splendid comeback. Josh Hazlewood got two wickets. Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and opted to bowl against the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the tournament opener of the 18th edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) at the iconic Eden Gardens on Saturday.

New Zealand beat Pakistan by 9 wickets in the 1st T20I
The Pakistan batting crumbled against the New Zealand pace attack and the tourists were all out for 91 in 18.4 overs, its fifth-lowest total in T20 internationals. New Zealand easily ran down that total, reaching 92-1 from 10.1 overs with Tim Seifert making 44 from 29 balls and Finn Allen 29 from 17. Tim Robinson was 18 not out and took two runs from the first ball of the 11th over to complete the win. «It was obviously difficult and we weren't up to the mark,» Ali Agha said. «They bowled really well. They were bowling in the right areas and there was swing and seam for them as well. »But out batting wasn't up to the mark. We have won day before the next game and we will try to gather ourselves and be better in the next game."

Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL: Full schedule, squad, past wins, and more
In 2012, KKR won their first title because of Sunil Narine and Robin Uthappa. They won the title in 2014 again — the first season with Andre Russell in their ranks. The next three years showed promise but didn’t bring KKR another title, leading to Gautam Gambhir’s exit ahead of the 2018 auction. Dinesh Karthik took over as captain in 2018, guiding KKR to a third-place finish in his debut season. Midway through the 2020 IPL, he stepped down, passing the leadership to Eoin Morgan, who led the team to their third final in 2021. However, Morgan went unsold the following year, making way for Shreyas Iyer, who ultimately steered KKR to their third IPL title in 2024.

What is Virat Kohli planning to do after retirement? India's top batter drops major hint
'I actually don't know what I will be doing post retirement, recently I asked a teammate the same question, and got the same reply. Yeah but may be a lot of traveling," said Virat Kohli. Recently, the peerless Virat Kohli said his job is not just to win ICC trophies but also ensure that Indian cricket is at a better place when he walks into the sunset, as the team won a third Champions Trophy title with a four-wicket victory over New Zealand here. India completed a chase of 252 with six balls to spare. «When you leave, you want to leave the team in a better place, I feel we've a squad that's ready to take on the world for the next eight years,» an ecstatic Kohli said after the end of the final. «It's been amazing, we wanted to bounce back after a tough Australian tour, and wanted to win a big tournament, so to win the Champions Trophy is amazing,» Kohli told broadcasters 'JioHotstar' with Shubman Gill by his side.

Hamas says 'ball is in Israel's court' after hostage offer
Following the offer on Friday, Israel said the Palestinian militants had «not budged a millimetre» after a proposal from US President Donald Trump's Middle East envoy. The first phase of the truce, which began in January, ended on March 1 without agreement on next steps. A Hamas official said negotiations began in Doha on Tuesday. «The ball is in Israel's court,» a Hamas spokesman said. «We want to solidify the ceasefire agreement and force (Israel) to implement its terms,» Abdul Latif al-Qanou told AFP, accusing Israel of «delaying» its enforcement.

Rohit-Kohli led India to glory, but all-rounders were game changers: Ricky Ponting
Ricky Ponting said that while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's experience was the backbone of India's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 success, they had superlative support from their all-rounders, according to the official website of the ICC. Ponting stated in ICC Review, «Their all-rounders right through the tournament were outstanding,» as quoted from the official website of ICC. "(Ravindra) Jadeja, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, were all outstanding. I said at the start of the tournament I thought India would be really hard to beat because of their overall balance and because of that mix of youth and experience, and once again, in a final, the captain stands up and gets the job done for his team," Ponting said. With three all-rounders starting in their playing XI in all five of their games at the recently concluded Champions Trophy, India flexed an incredible batting depth, while also having an array of options to choose with the ball. Breaking down their contributions, Ponting said, «They were a very well balanced side anyway, but because they had so many all-rounders...when you've got Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, who they used up the order on a number of occasions for that left-handed option, and with Jadeja there as well, they were a very well balanced team.

Russian missiles kill 5 in Ukraine as Kremlin mulls ceasefire prospects
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday that it's important not to «get ahead» of the question of responding to the 30-day ceasefire proposal. He told reporters that Moscow is awaiting «detailed information» about it from the US and suggested Russia must get that before it can take a position. The Russian missiles killed four Syrian men between the ages of 18 and 24 on a ship docked at the southern port of Odesa late Tuesday, where it was loading Ukrainian wheat for Algeria, Infrastructure Minister Oleksii Kuleba said. Another missile killed a woman in Kryvih Rih, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's hometown in central Ukraine, authorities said. The American help is vital for Ukraine's shorthanded and weary army, which is having a tough time keeping Russia's bigger military force at bay. But for Moscow, more American aid spells potentially more difficulty in achieving its war aims and likely will be a tough sell in Moscow for Washington's peace efforts.

Hitman the Batman: Whether batting or leading India, Rohit is an artist at work
Rohit Sharma does not realise the full extent of it, but he has a deeply expressive face. Rohit tries, at all times, to stay calm and remain on an even keel, but his eyes unfailingly give away what’s buzzing in that brain and what is tugging at his heart. You saw a clear demonstration of this earlier in the Champions Trophy when Kuldeep Yadav failed to gather a throw from Virat Kohli. Rohit, who was backing up, let the bowler have a spontaneous spray. Just what are you thinking? Or are you thinking at all? Those seemed the questions. When he meets the ball with the full face of his broad bat and it makes exactly the right sound, Rohit almost freezes. He holds his shape, watching the ball do as he has commanded, piercing the field or clearing it and racing to the boundary. If you commissioned a sculptor to make a statue that used still life to show the poetry in motion of batting, this would be it. And there are times when even Rohit can’t help but stop and admire what he has just done.

Happy we were able to play as a unit: Virat Kohli after winning Champions Trophy 2025 title
ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand on Sunday, India's stalwart batter Virat Kohli shared his thoughts on the title win and said that he is happy as the team was able to play as a unit. In the final, it was Rohit Sharma who led the way. In the semi-final, it was Virat Kohli with the bat and Mohammed Shami with the ball, among others. India won five straight games to claim the Champions Trophy 2025, and in each of those contests, a handful of their star players shone brightly. Those contributions led to another title-yielding run in a major ICC event.

India's ODIssey to top of the world: Rohit’s men defeat New Zealand by four wickets to win Champions Trophy for third time
India’s bowlers stuck to their guns, attacking the stumps and keeping the batsmen honest. In turn, New Zealand’s finest seem to have got a measure not only of the conditions and opposition but of what was needed in a tournament final. At no time did New Zealand’s batting look under pressure, harried or hurried. It was as though they had mentally set themselves a target of something in the region of 250, and were planning their way there, rather than aiming for 300 and falling well short. Rachin Ravindra was a treat to watch for his 37 and Daryl Mitchell ensured that the innings was held together with 63. If New Zealand were kept on a tight leash by India’s spinners, with wickets falling just regularly enough to ensure that the game was always within grasp, Michael Bracewell, at No 7, kept New Zealand competitive with a breezy 53.
