Among its key provisions, the Bill allows depositors to nominate up to four individuals for their bank accounts or fixed deposits, replacing the current single-nominee system. The move aims to simplify fund distribution after the death of an account holder, a problem which arose during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said that Indian banks have remained healthy, adding that we can not afford to have struggling banks. Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Monday attacked the Centre over the Adani issue and threatened to launch a protest in support of the opposition's demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the allegations against the business group.
