NASA and SpaceX on Friday will count down to a long-awaited crewed rocket launch that will allow them to bring home U.S. astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who have been stuck on the International Space Station for nine months. SpaceX and the U.S. space agency had planned on Wednesday to launch from Florida a replacement crew of four astronauts, a mission called Crew-10, but a last-minute issue with the rocket's ground systems forced a delay. Now slated for liftoff at 7:03 p.m. ET Friday (2330GMT), the Crew-10's arrival to the ISS on Saturday night will allow the return of Wilmore and Williams, two veteran NASA astronauts and U.S. Navy test pilots who in June 2024 were the first humans to test-fly Boeing's Starliner spacecraft to the ISS in June. But problems with Starliner's propulsion system during its flight to the ISS delayed what was expected to be an eight-day stay. NASA deemed it too risky for the astronauts to fly home on the Boeing craft, which led to the current plan to bring them home in a SpaceX capsule. It has also become entangled in politics as President Donald Trump and his adviser Elon Musk, SpaceX's CEO, claim without evidence President Joe Biden left «Butch and Suni» on the station for political reasons.

Aerospace and defence technology manufacturing startup Rangsons Aerospace has raised Rs 300 crore from ValueQuest Investment Advisors. The Mysuru-based company plans to use the fresh capital to expand its operational capacity and drive growth into new business areas through strategic acquisitions. This is the first investment by ValueQuest Tristar Fund, a Category II alternative investment fund (AIF) focused on thematic sectors such as defence, aerospace, and precision engineering.

FedEx plane made an emergency landing shortly after taking off from Newark Airport on Saturday as its right engine caught fire, New York Post reported. According to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and FedEx, the bird strike caused the sudden ignition. Video showed the Boeing 767-3S2F heading back to the tarmac as flames spewed from the right engine around 8 am (local time) on Saturday. Two Port Authority fire trucks headed near the the plane as it landed and extinguished the blaze. Later, the National Transportation Safety Board announced that it initiated an investigation into the incident, New York Post reported. According to the flight data, the plane was forced to land at 8:07 am (local time), just nine minutes after the takeoff.

NASA has confirmed that astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore will return to Earth in late March 2025. Originally scheduled for an earlier return, their departure was delayed due to mission rescheduling and technical challenges. Crew-10, which will replace them aboard the International Space Station (ISS), is set to launch on 12 March 2025 at 7:48 PM EDT. Williams and Wilmore, part of Crew-9, are expected to begin their journey home around a week later, barring unforeseen weather or operational delays.
