The airline is also working on sector-specific packages and looking at long-term arrangements with large companies.

Air India to lease three 777-300 ER from Singapore Airlines
Air India will lease three Boeing 777-300 ER from Singapore Airlines as it expands its fleet modernisation strategy. These aircraft are in addition to the 11 777 leased aircraft and will be used to phase out the older 777-200 aircraft which were inducted in 2009. These aircraft have older cabins and often have been subject of passenger ire due to crumbling seats, broken lavatories and dysfunctional seat-back entertainment screens.

Sterling takes a beating; dollar gains ground
In Asia, markets also had their focus on China's loan prime rate (LPR) decision, where it is expected to keep the lending benchmarks unchanged after the central bank stood pat on a key policy rate earlier this week. The British pound was last 0.02% lower at $1.2936, after tumbling more than 0.7% on Wednesday in the wake of data that showed Britain's high rate of inflation falling more than expected in June to its slowest in over a year at 7.9%. That pulled back market expectations of further aggressive rate hikes from the Bank of England (BoE), with the prospect of UK rates rising above 6% now likely off the table.

Sustainable jet fuel tough for Indian airlines: Boeing
Mint. “The airlines are certainly very eager to purchase more SAF, but some Indian airlines are the most price-sensitive anywhere in the world. Therefore, the challenge is to bring the cost of sustainable aviation fuel down because it currently is at 300-500% of traditional jet fuel." SAF is any fuel with properties similar to those of conventional jet fuel, but with lower carbon emissions.

UK inflation slows sharply to 7.9% in June
inflation fell by more than expected in June and was its slowest in more than a year at 7.9%, according to official data that will ease some of the pressure on the Bank of England to keep on raising interest rates sharply.Sterling fell as the Office for National Statistics said the consumer price inflation growth rate was its lowest since March of last year but remained above the pace of price growth in many other big, rich economies. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast that the CPI rate in the 12 months to June would drop to 8.2% from May's 8.7%, moving further away from October's 41-year high of 11.1% but still far above the BoE's 2% target.

Modi’s France visit made a resilient relationship stronger still
India-France ties have a special weave to them, if nothing else because both countries have the habit of being gadflies on the international scene. Like the Indians, the French have historically paid scant attention to their own limitations or weaknesses when promoting themselves on the world stage. France emerged bruised and battered from two world wars into a global political reality with radically altered power equations and rapid decolonising.
