Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of former State Bank of India (SBI) deputy managing director (DMD) Salee Sukumaran Nair for a three year term, the bank in a stock market notice. Nair retired from SBI as DMD and chief credit officer (CCO) as recently as May this year. He takes over from S Krishnan who had resigned in September 2023 just a week after the bank wrongly credited Rs 9,000 crore to a Chennai cab driver. Krishnan was asked to continue till a replacement was found even as there was a lot of too and fro for contenders between the bank and the RBI.

Wipro has appointed Sandhya Arun as its chief technology officer (CTO) with immediate effect, as per an internal email, hours after Subha Tatavarti resigned as CTO to pursue opportunities outside the country’s fourth largest IT firm. Andhra Pradesh government is set to initiate the first-ever skill and industry census to gauge the state's labour force profile and create linkages between the unemployed youth and industry. The state-wide census will capture the demography with social and economic details of over 1.6 crore households. The exercise would be first initiated through a pilot project in one mandal (smallest administrative unit) and one educational institution towards the end of September. After the data is collected and cleaned up, the state government will initiate a state-wide census in January 2025. A highly-placed state government source told ET, «The census will take about 12 months. After this, the data will be cleaned and collated.»

Howard Schultz, the former CEO of Starbucks, expressed his support for Niccol’s appointment, stating that Niccol has his “respect and full support.” Laxman Narasimhan, the outgoing CEO of Starbucks, will be leaving both his position and the Starbucks board after joining the company in 2023. Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday urged youth to work with commitment and dedication to become successful and make India a developed nation by 2047. Addressing the «Impact With Youth Conclave 2024» here on International Youth Day, the minister said the 'Mera Yuva Bharat — 'MY Bharat' portal launched by the Centre will become a single window platform for the youth. This year's International Youth Day, themed 'From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,' emphasises the importance of digitalisation and the pivotal role young people play in this transformation. «This is a country with a population of 140 crore. It is our collective responsibility to make India a developed nation. In such a situation, youth have a special responsibility,» Mandaviya said.

The data shows that banks, financial services, information technology and services companies have a larger representation of women workers than other sectors. But there were some interesting point to note at different levels of roles, on retention and implementing enabling policies to help more women find meaningful career pathways. The report points out that leading global and Indian companies have initiated several programmes for women employees. But the IT sector continues to face a significant gender gap in leadership positions. The report highlights that women in leadership and at board level are at 22%, lower than the 34% at the overall employee level. The retention rates and return-to-work after parental leave rates are closer to the average of NSE companies. It's important to focus on targeted talent development and progression planning for women employees, says the report. This could include implementing two-way feedback sessions, providing learning opportunities and facilitating networking with senior leaders. Additionally, creating customised sponsorship or mentorship programmes can help support women’s career growth.
