Bengaluru's tech wealth is superficial, a mirage: Zerodha's Nikhil Kamath says Indian-IT capital has paper wealth, not real money
Nikhil Kamath, the co-founder of Zerodha, expressed his belief that Bengaluru possesses a significant amount of paper wealth, suggesting that the wealth in the city may be more superficial than tangible. He noted that individuals in Bengaluru often accumulate wealth through stock options and other paper assets, particularly those working in the tech industry. Bengaluru's primary wealth stems from tech companies He highlighted that the wealth in Bengaluru primarily stems from tech companies, leading to a facade of affluence without substantial expendable wealth. Kamath expressed, 'It's not real money. Bengaluru has the most paper wealth and very little expendable wealth. The paper rich from here made money in tech companies.' Reflecting on his early career, Kamath recounted his first job experience at a call center in Bengaluru where he earned ₹8,000 selling health insurance. He noted the contrast in feelings as his peers graduated and entered the workforce.

Xiaomi CEO teases price of company's first car, showrooms begin displaying vehicle
Xiaomi's CEO said on Monday his goal for the firm's first electric vehicle was that it would be the «best looking, easiest to drive and smartest car» priced below 500,000 yuan ($69,424), as the Chinese electronics maker gears up for orders this week. The company will on Thursday evening announce its official price range and start taking orders for the car, dubbed the SU7, with the SU short for Speed Ultra. CEO Lei Jun's comments, made on his official Weibo account, mark the first time the company has confirmed the upper end of its price range. Anticipation for the car has been building up since Xiaomi unveiled the vehicle in December and announced it aimed to become one of the world's top five automakers. Lei has touted it as having technology capable of delivering acceleration better than Tesla cars and Porsche's EVs.

Consolidation from bottom-line perspective may play out over next few quarters: Kalpen Parekh
Kalpen Parekh, MD & CEO, DSP Mutual Fund, says “we felt that prices are maybe a year ahead of what they should be and part correction has happened, let us say, in the last two-three weeks, but we do feel that even today when we look at our portfolios, we would be happy with some more consolidation either in terms of time or if there is some more price fall, our conviction to buy the same set of good companies with the next five-year horizon would go up significantly. But we would still say it is time to be cautious, time to be more diversified and time to be more asset allocated rather than chasing only one bucket.” You and your team are putting out some great data. In fact, it is just not garnering assets but also educating the ecosystem and learning which I really appreciate about your house. You called out on the froth in small and midcaps very early on. In fact, the buzz may have gotten louder in the last two weeks, but the melting of the indices started in the first or second week of February. Do you think the adjustment is done or not entirely?

Indian PhD student Cheistha Kochhar, who got married last year to an IT professional, dies in London cycling tragedy
Amitabh Kant, the former CEO of NITI Aayog, expressed sorrow over her untimely passing through an online post, recalling her vibrant spirit and academic pursuits. «Cheistha Kochar worked with me on the LIFE programme in NITI Aayog. She was in the Nudge unit and had gone to do her Ph.D in behavioural science at LSE. Passed away in a terrible traffic incident while cycling in London. She was bright, brilliant & brave and always full of life. Gone away too early. RIP,» Amitabh Kant said in a post on social media platform X. Cheistha's life came to an abrupt end as she was struck by a garbage truck while cycling, with her husband Prashant, a software engineer, only a short distance ahead. Prashant, upon hearing the collision, hurried back to find Cheistha critically injured. Despite the swift arrival of police and paramedics, Cheistha succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The involved lorry, suspected to be a waste collection vehicle, remained at the site, with the driver cooperating with the ongoing police investigation, reports said. As of now, no arrests have been made, and inquiries continue.

Bharat Biotech starts clinical trials of TB jab
Bharat Biotech International Ltd on Sunday said it has started clinical trials of tuberculosis vaccine candidate MTBVAC in India. The only vaccine in use today--BCG (Bacillus Calmette and Guerin)--is an attenuated variant of the bovine TB pathogen. This is more than a hundred years old and has a limited effect on pulmonary tuberculosis, which is mostly responsible for the transmission of the disease. Studying the safety, immunogenicity and efficacy of MTBVAC in the most populated country in the world and the one with the highest number of cases of this infectious disease is key to continue advancing in this vaccine," the company said. The trials have been done in collaboration with Spanish biopharmaceuticals company Biofabri to evaluate the safety, immunogenicity and efficacy of MTBVAC in India. «MTBVAC is being developed for two purposes: as a more effective and potentially longer-lasting vaccine than BCG for new-borns, and for the prevention of TB disease in adults and adolescents, for whom there is currently no effective vaccine,» Bharat Biotech International said. MTBVAC, the Spanish tuberculosis vaccine, is the first live attenuated vaccine of mycobacterium tuberculosis isolated from a human.

India has incredibly affordable airfares, says Akasa Air CEO Vinay Dube
India has «incredibly affordable» airfares and the country's aviation market has the kind of growth potential where Akasa Air as well as other carriers can do well, according to the nearly two-year-old airline's chief Vinay Dube. As Akasa Air prepares to take the international skies on March 28 with the first overseas flight from Mumbai to Doha, Dube also asserted that the airline is not about «marketing gimmicks». Akasa Air is aiming to be among the world's top 30 airlines by 2030 and will go public in future. «We think we have a great financial future. Listing is in our future… but you never say never. We hope to list some day,» he told PTI in an interview this week. While acknowledging that aviation competition has always been intense, he said that as long as the focus is on fundamentals, there is enough room not just for Akasa Air to thrive in the future but for others as well.
