markets UPS Citi Action Research consequences reports Telecom competition takes a breather, may recharge Vodafone Idea
Vodafone Idea's financial health is set to get a much-needed boost from latest tariff increases and easing competitive intensity with analysts predicting the debt-laden telecom operator's average revenue per user (ARPU) to rise to ₹171-180 by this fiscal-end, from ₹143 in April. Brokerage Citi Research projected rising revenues, operating income, capex, and narrowing losses for the telecom joint venture between India's Aditya Birla Group and UK's Vodafone Plc. «The peak of competitive intensity is now likely behind us, evidenced not just by the latest tariff action but also the recent spectrum auction,» Citi said in a report. «With Jio taking the lead in initiating the latest round of tariff hikes, a shift in stance of the market leader towards monetisation is now clearly evident, which also improves visibility of future hikes,» it said, adding that last week's price increase were slightly ahead of market expectation in terms of both magnitude and timing.

UPS FIVE security performer consequences testing Commodity Talk: Gold's 13% H1CY2024 returns robust, but positives priced-in now, says Anuj Gupta
Most bullish factors are priced in bullion now and we believe that after registering strong gains in the last three months, bullion prices are likely to witness a correction in the short term, Anuj Gupta, Head Commodity & Currency at HDFC Securities said. In the long term, he remains bullish expecting this precious metal to test Rs 78,000-Rs 80,000 levels by the end of the year. Edited excerpts: Gold has given 13% returns in H1CY2024 amid ups and downs. How will you rate its performance during this period against your expectations? Gold's rally has been more than what Nifty has delivered till date. The gains have been on account of bullish buying by major Central Banks across the world. Moreover, geopolitical tension and fear of slow down in Europe and the US also played their part. All these factors have been positive for gold being a safe haven for investors. On the flip sided equities and Nifty have suffered as a consequence of this.

UPS Manufacturing Dreams awards students consequences US chip dreams will fade without more immigrants
Chips and Science Act — but their persistent failure to unite behind common-sense, bipartisan reforms to bring more skilled immigrants to the US puts this notable achievement in jeopardy. Congress passed the law in 2022 to revive domestic semiconductor manufacturing and reduce dependence on fabrication plants in East Asia. On paper, the initiative is already a success: Nearly $30 billion in subsidies and $25 billion in loans have been awarded, supporting investments of roughly $350 billion. One industry-sponsored study expects US chipmaking capacity to triple by 2032, with output of advanced logic chips rising from zero in 2022 to 28% of global production. To build and run those fabs, however, companies need workers the US doesn’t have. Shortages of skilled installers of hyper-precise chipmaking equipment have already delayed projects. The number of Americans studying in relevant graduate programs has been flat for 30 years. A third of current fab workers are 55 and older, and more than half say they’re eager to quit. The Semiconductor Industry Association says chipmakers will face a shortfall of 67,000 skilled workers by 2030.
