Cyberabad police have employed humour to address the issue of wrong-way driving, using memes and viral videos on their X (formerly Twitter) platform. This initiative aims to highlight the severe consequences of reckless driving. Over the past month, police have filed 150 criminal cases and seized 800 vehicles, predominantly two-wheelers, reported TOI.
One meme video shared by the police featured scenes similar to popular movies and declared, «The Tom and Jerry game has begun!» This creative approach targets raising awareness about the dangers of wrong-way driving.
The police also shared videos showing accidents caused by such driving to emphasize their zero-tolerance policy.
On Wednesday alone, the Cyberabad police registered 21 cases, while Tuesday saw 10 cases being filed against offenders, as per the TOI report. Despite the praise for this awareness campaign, some critics argue that sustained enforcement is necessary.
«All this hungama only lasts during the campaigns. Many violators are seen getting away right under the nose of officers,» TOI quoted an X user's comment, in reply to the meme video.
Others have called for more frequent drives in various areas of the city.
«Please conduct drives at BHEL, Jyothi Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Beeramguda, and RC Puram. Your efforts will be appreciated, more,» another X user posted.
Aside from memes, there is a call for increased patrols and safer U-turns to further reduce incidents.
