Is climate change leading to frequent and high intensity heat waves in North America?
North America continues to be gripped by a heat wave. The heatwave that began in May and continues to affect day to day life in the central and eastern states of the US has already killed many others in Mexico. According to the scientists, this was made 35 times more likely because of anthropogenic factors causing climate change. Human induced activities such as burning of fossil fuels has caused this issue. In neighboring Mexico, this heatwave has already killed 125 people and led to thousands of heatstroke cases. There is bad news as this heatwave like conditions will only intensify if human induced activities do not reduce, according to scientists. This study was conducted by World Weather Attribution which is an international collaboration of scientists who study climate change. Record high temperatures:

PUC Pollution certificate centres in Delhi may close next month as petrol pump owners threaten shutdown
Petrol pump owners across Delhi have issued a warning to shut down Pollution Under Control (PUC) certification centres starting July 1, citing unaddressed financial challenges. Despite persistent appeals since 2015, the fees for issuing PUC certificates have remained unchanged for over 12 years, rendering operations unsustainable, according to the Delhi Petrol Traders’ Association (DPDA), a TOI report stated. In a letter addressed to Delhi’s transport commissioner, DPDA expressed their longstanding concerns, stating, «PUC certification centres earlier operated on wafer thin margins for many years and have for the last few years operated on losses...While the spiralling costs and other expenses, which have jumped several fold, have been brought to your notice several times in the past, non-revision of PUC checking rates and the consequent unviability is forcing us to close our centres across Delhi from July 1.» Currently, Delhi hosts nearly 650 PUC centres, situated at various petrol and diesel stations throughout the city. Customers are charged Rs 60 for two-wheelers, Rs 80 for petrol cars, and Rs 100 for diesel vehicles (excluding 18% GST) for PUC checks. «The last time the rates were revised was in Dec 2011. In the last 12 years, the minimum wages of a skilled worker have gone up by nearly three times, the oil companies have started charging exorbitant rents for these centres and the overhead charges such as maintenance of the equipment have also increased,» DPDA President Nischal Singhania told TOI.

Indian Biogas Association demands Rs 90 per kg fixed rate for procurement of compressed biogas
Indian Biogas Association (IBA) is demanding a fixed rate of Rs 90 per kg for procurement of biogas by oil and gas marketing companies, from the government, citing environmental benefits and to boost the sector. The IBA will soon put up the suggestion about fixing the procurement price of the biogas, along with other recommendations, for boosting the sector before the newly appointed Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi. While the retail selling price of compressed biogas (CBG) is aligned with CNG (compressed natural gas), the procurement price is unfortunately linked to the retail selling price (RSP) of CNG, IBA Chairman Gaurav Kedia told PTI. Consequently, he said with CNG prices in New Delhi hovering at Rs 75-80 per kg, the procurement price of CBG by oil and gas marketing companies falls to Rs 59 per kg (excluding GST).
