Market Wrap: Sensex, Nifty end flat ahead of retail inflation data; mid, smallcaps underperform
Nifty ended flat on Monday as investors awaited India's consumer price inflation (CPI), or retail inflation, prints for the month of July which is expected to see an uptick because of the recent rise in vegetables, pulses and cereals prices. A sharp uptick in inflation may weigh on market sentiment which already appears to be in a consolidation phase. Sensex and Nifty are about two per cent down in August so far.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea challenging a Delhi High Court order that prevented a family restaurant in Delhi from using the Burger King trademark. Justice Sanjeev Khanna, presiding over the bench, criticised the petitioner for misusing the law, noting that Burger King has used the trademark since 1950, a fact widely recognized.

India can be a trusted supply chain partner of Taiwan, which leads in hi-tech manufacturing in the Asian region, remarked Edison Hsu, Director, Taipei World Trade Center Liaison Office in Mumbai at an interactive meeting organized for an in-bound Taiwan Trade Mission at WTC Mumbai. Notably, India ranks as Taiwan’s 14th largest export destination and 18th largest source of imports. Eastern Ladakh row: India, China hold fresh military talks
India and China on Monday held a fresh round of military talks with a focus on disengagement of troops in the remaining friction points in eastern Ladakh and ease overall tensions in the region. The 19th round of Corps Commander level dialogue took place at the Chushul-Moldo border point on the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the region, military sources said. The Indian and Chinese troops are locked in an over three-year confrontation in certain friction points in eastern Ladakh even as the two sides completed disengagement from several areas following extensive diplomatic and military talks.

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd plans to phase out fuel exports in the next two to three years as it expands its local retail network to diversify its sources of revenue, its managing director said.MRPL, a subsidiary of state-controlled Oil and Natural Gas Corp, operates a 300,000 barrel-per-day coastal refinery in southern Karnataka state, mostly supplying the state refiners that own about 90% of India's retail fuel stations and exporting the remainder.Sanjay Varma told Reuters that MRPL plans to expand its retail outlets in southern India to 1800 by 2027 from about 71 now. «When refining margins are low (retailers) make a handsome profit because marketing margins are good.
