Will Kamala Harris get a bump from low gas prices in the November U.S. elections?
The COVID-19 pandemic and Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 are two examples of recent global events that have caused higher gas prices. According to Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, the market is coming into a better sense of balance. So it certainly is good news for the incumbent party, potentially, that gas prices are falling, though he expects there will continue to be a lot of noise from politicians on both sides of the aisle on this issue. Wednesday saw the national average price of gasoline drop to about $3.25 per gallon from $3.31 per week and $3.45 per month. According to DeHaan, the price drop is normal for the early fall. Air travel in India has become inclusive than being exclusive, says Prime Minister Modi
Narendra Modi said. “There was a time when air travel was only reserved for the elite in India. It was limited to big cities but the middle and poor class never could use this. But today, lot of common people are flying from tier 2 and tier 3 cities,” Modi said while addressing the second Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation Thursday. The Prime Minister also announced the unanimous passing of the Delhi Declaration under which the countries agreed to work together to enhance regional cooperation, addressing emerging challenges, and fostering sustainable growth within the civil aviation sector.

UK is facing an uphill battle to attract foreign skilled workers
Of all the clicks on British job postings from workers abroad, only a fifth were on high-wage jobs, or postings offering the upper third of wages, according to data covering the first six months of the year from job-search website Indeed. Only Spain had a smaller proportion among 10 advanced economies analysed. Foreigners have a strong urge to work in the UK but they are not the kind of workers the government wants. The lowest-paid jobs attracted 40% of clicks from abroad, casting doubt over the Conservatives’ policies to discourage low-skill migration.

Trumpeted 100-day agenda before polls but after 95 days, govt 'vacillating': Kharge targets PM Modi
Narendra Modi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday said that he had «loudly trumpeted» a 100-day agenda before the polls but the country is «suffering the terrible consequences» of his «inactions» in 95 days of his coalition government. Kharge also said that while 95 days are over, his coalition government is «vacillating». «Narendra Modi ji, even before the elections, you had loudly trumpeted the 100-day agenda. 95 days are over, your coalition government is vacillating,» Kharge said in a post on X. «Let's do a little recap — Your government brought an anti-people Budget to break the backbone of the poor and middle class. Terrorist attacks took place in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in Jammu, where many bravehearts of the Indian Army were martyred,» the Congress chief said.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar slams Rahul Gandhi over statements made in US
Jagdeep Dhankar on Thursday slammed Rahul Gandhi on his statements in the United States. He said that there is nothing more condemnable intolerable than one in Constitutional position becoming part of enemies of the nation, adding that he is «pained and disturbed» that some people in position have no idea of national interest. This comes after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi met with US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in Washington. The US leader is known to have an anti-Indian stance. Dhankar further said that true «Bharatiyas» would never side with the enemies of the nation. «Imagine, ultimate sacrifice have been given by how many in getting this freedom, in protecting this freedom, in protecting the nation! Our brothers and sisters are also involved in combat position. Mothers have lost their sons, wives have lost their husbands. We can't ridicule our nationalism,» said the vice president.

Are valuations stretched? Sachin Shah weighs in on smallcap and midcap risks
«Of course, structurally, we may see a higher interest rate compared to the history or the past, but still, they should be significantly lower from what they are today, at least 100 to 150 bps or maybe closer to 200 bps lower over the next 12-18 months so that is another very big positive,» says Sachin Shah, Emkay Investment Managers. First up, the market view itself because, of course, while a lot of people have been saying that we are toppish and the fundamentals perhaps are getting overshadowed by liquidity right now, what is your view on where the market momentum lies and what should we factor in for the market peak? Sachin Shah: I think it is getting kind of a consensus view that the valuations are getting a bit stretched, at least in some pockets of the market, particularly the smallcaps and midcap, those kind of things, and of course, the largecaps are much more reasonably valued.

India's palm oil imports plunge as buyers shift to soyoil
palm oil imports in August fell more than a quarter from a month ago, primarily driven by sufficient domestic stocks and negative margins that discouraged refiners from purchasing more of the tropical oil, a leading trade body said on Thursday. Lower purchases by the world's biggest importer of vegetable oils could lead to higher stocks of palm oil in key producers Indonesia and Malaysia, weighing on benchmark futures. India's palm oil imports fell 26% in August from July to 797,482 metric tons, the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA) said in a statement.
