In India, young revving up demand for Lamborghini: Stephan Winkelmann
Young, aspiring Indians are among customers driving volumes at Italian supercar maker Lamborghini, which posted record sales last year, global chief executive Stephan Winkelmann told ET. Its signature, wedge-shaped sports car is one of the fastest production vehicles available to the seriously wealthy and the marque is seeing demand not only from buyers in the country, but also Indians in the US, Europe and Southeast Asia, where they have second homes, he said. Winkelmann, on his first visit to the country in 10 years, said the improvement in India's infrastructure has «surprised» him. He's also excited that women are increasingly gravitating toward the brand, even in India. The consumer mood in the country is buoyant and if the tax regime continues to remain stable, opportunities to expand sales are robust, he said. «There have been a lot of changes and in terms of infrastructure — this is striking immediately. And for sure, also in our type of business now; the car industry has exploded,» he said. «We think that everybody is in the right place to do business and we have grown as Lamborghini, which is very positive… I think we're very well-positioned.»

India against EU bringing in new issues at WTO meet via backdoor
India has opposed the European Union's bid to push new issues such as carbon taxes, industrial subsidies, women and climate at the upcoming ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in the garb of "deliberative functions" or «conversation with ministers» that seek to reform the body. Officials said the EU wants an open-ended work programme for such issues while developing countries are against them being discussed among ministers as they don't have a negotiating mandate from the global trade body. Deliberation sessions have been planned for the first time at the 13th ministerial conference of the WTO for ministers to discuss various issues.

India to pip China as top member of World Trade Centers association
India is poised to overtake China as the largest member of the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) in the next five years, its chairman said, underscoring a hitherto circumspect New Delhi's rapid global strides that neatly dovetail into a China-plus-one corporate sourcing strategy aimed at derisking supply chains across the planet. «I would say, particularly in the past 10 years, India's presence on the global stage has become increasingly pronounced,» said John E. Drew, Chairman of the WTCA, an international trade platform that connects more than 300 WTCs in nearly 100 countries. «While India's growth trajectory has been ongoing, its recognition and active participation in major economic discussions alongside China, the US, Russia, and the EU signify its emergence as a significant player in the global economy,» he said. Currently, India has about 40 WTC licensees covering more than 30 cities. According to the real estate developer, a large number of Indian entrepreneurs establishing successful companies in the US, particularly in tech hubs like California and Massachusetts, further strengthened India's influence in global business. «I expect this trend to continue, paralleling the trajectory seen with Chinese entrepreneurship,» he said.

India allows foreign cargo flights from Intl airports for 3 yrs
India will allow foreign airlines to operate non-scheduled cargo flights from all international airports in the country for three years, lifting 2020 curbs that had restricted them to six — Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Chennai. This followed lobbying by exporters against the restrictions. While India had an open sky policy in air cargo that allowed unhindered movement by foreign airlines, the government amended it in 2020 to give Indian carriers a boost. However, exporters have been protesting that goods capacity had shrunk as Indian carriers failed to deploy enough aircraft to meet demand.

Inside the 72 hours while Canada debated grounding the Boeing MAX-8
Boeing 737 MAX-8 jets in March 2019, staff at his department prepared three very different speeches. They outlined three different scenarios: restricting the aircraft from Canadian airspace, as many countries already had, declaring the MAX-8 safe to fly, as the Americans did, or allowing the aircraft to operate “only if certain standards were met.”The speeches are part of a newly released trove of internal documents on the federal government’s decision to ground the Boeing jets following a deadly 2019 crash in Ethiopia that killed 18 Canadians.Next month marks the fifth anniversary of the disaster. It’s not unusual for staff to draft multiple versions of speeches for ministers. But the fact that each of Garneau’s three prepared remarks contained vastly different decisions on the grounding of the MAX-8 illustrates the uncertainty at Transport Canada over the jets’ safety.Emails, memos and briefing notes obtained by Global News through access to information law show three days of flurried activity at Transport Canada as the agency’s position continuously evolved.
