Supreme Court spectrum plea: Setback for Centre
Supreme Court registrar hasn't accepted the government's plea for allowing the administrative allocation of spectrum in some special cases, marking a setback for the Centre. The apex court had ruled that frequencies had to be auctioned as they were a national resource in the 2G spectrum allocation case in 2012. The registrar said the government was seeking a review of the 2012 order «in the guise» of seeking clarifications and said the move was «misconceived», adding that there was no «reasonable cause» for entertaining the plea and that too after a lengthy period of time. «I refuse to receive the present miscellaneous application (MA), as it does not disclose any reasonable cause for being entertained,» Pavanesh D, registrar, judicial listing, said in the order that ET has seen. «Accordingly, it is declined to be received under the provisions of Order XV Rule 5 of the Supreme Court Rules, 2013.»

Like US, India should get less coy about surgically targeting credible threats to national security
The article goes to great lengths to explain why the central incidents — involving the alleged assassination attempt of a Khalistan advocate in the US and murder of another in Canada — did not lead to public censure of India by the US. That India today is geopolitically and commercially important to the US, and like Saudi Arabia, it got a free pass from the Americans because they are, at least at present, playing on the same team. Where the article loses me, however, is in its linking the issue of extrajudicial killings with what it sees as the rise of 'deepening authoritarianism' in India. Killing dissidents, activists and journalists on foreign soil is chilling. And jailing them in a constitutionally democratic country is, indeed, a sign of creeping authoritarianism. But surgically targeting those deemed a credible threat to national security is what the US and its allies have been doing for decades.

Covishield Case: Bereaved parents to take Serum Institute of India to Court following AstraZeneca's rare side effect admission
Serum Institute of India (SII), a day after AstraZeneca, which sold the vaccine in India, admitted in court that their Covid shot can cause a rare side effect. The parents are hopeful of justice after the AstraZeneca's admission surfaced. The pharmaceutical giant is being sued in a class-action suit over claims that its Covid-19 vaccine, developed with the University of Oxford, caused death and serious injury, including TTS — thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome — a serious adverse event that causes blood clots and a low blood platelet count. Venugopalan Govindan, father of Karunya, who died after taking the vaccine, said the admission by AstraZeneca is «too late» and has come after so many lives have been lost. «AstraZeneca and SII should have stopped the manufacture and supply of these vaccines when 15 European countries either suspended or age-limited these due to deaths from blood clots that happened in March 2021, within a couple of months of the rollout of the vaccine itself.»

Samant Goel, 'linked' to Pannun case, played role in Uri and Balakot strikes
RAW) chief Samant Goel, who has been named in a Washington Post report on alleged assasination bid on Khalistani terrorist and US citizen Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, had played a key role in Balakot and Uri strikes on Pakistan by Indian forces. In a report on Monday, Washington Post had claimed that one Vikram Yadav, an RAW officer, had hired a hit team to kill Pannun. An indictment filed in a Manhattan court in November last year mentioned an unnamed Indian government official, referred to as 'CC-1', who allegedly hired one Nikhil Gupta to get Pannun assassinated. The Washington Post report claims that Goel, who was the RAW head at that time, gave the final nod for the assassination attempt of Pannun, as per a report published by The Washington Post.

HC asks Ashneer Grover not to create third party rights in shares transferred by BharatPe cofounder
Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked payment app BharatPe's former MD Ashneer Grover not to transfer or create any third-party rights in the shares transferred to him by the company's co-founder Bhavik Koladiya. Justice Prateek Jalan passed the interim order on a lawsuit by Koladiya seeking to reclaim the shares he transferred to his erstwhile colleague. The judge opined that the plaintiff, Koladiya, made out a prima facie case for the grant of such an injunction as he would suffer irreparable loss and prejudice if third-party rights were created in the shares being claimed by him.

Amar Singh Chamkila’s 1st wife reveals how the family got looted after singing sensation's murder
Amar Singh Chamkila’s first wife Gurmail spilled the beans on how the family of the late singing sensation’s second wife Amarjot, made a grab for all the cash and belongings accumulated by the singing jodi after their death. In a YouTube channel called Love Punjab, Gurmail revealed the shocking aftermath of Amarjot’s family. She implied that Amarjot’s family appeared one day after their demise and took away all their belongings and cash. “ We didn’t have any domestic disputes, but after Chamkila died, our house was swept clean by them. They took everything, including the house. Didn’t even leave a spoon behind. But who had the energy to fight them at the time? They had no reason to visit me after his passing," she lamented. Gurmail said that she underwent immeasurable hardships after her husband died as they had to fight many legal battles. Chamkila was the sole bread-earner of the family and after his death, she had to take up the role. Her son died in a freak accident. However, she managed to educate her daughters.

Centre should urgently address alleged side-effects of Covishield, says Delhi health minister
Saurabh Bharadwaj on Tuesday said the Centre should work to urgently address the alleged side-effects of the Covidshield vaccine as millions of people in India were administered the shit during the Covid pandemic. Bharadwaj expressed concern over the alleged link between the vaccine's side-effects and a series of sudden deaths in India, claiming that Covidshield was banned in several European countries, including Germany, France, Spain, Finland, Norway and Denmark, at the beginning of 2021 due to apprehensions about its safety. UK-headquartered pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca has admitted that in «very rare cases», its COVID-19 vaccine can cause a blood clot-related side-effect but the causal link is unknown, according to court papers being quoted in the UK media. The Daily Telegraph reported that in a legal document submitted to the High Court in London in February for a group action brought by 51 claimants, AstraZeneca admitted that the vaccine developed with the University of Oxford to protect against COVID-19 may cause Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS) in «very rare cases».
