Hindujas may borrow ₹4,000 crore to fund Reliance Capital purchase
Hinduja Group is in discussions to borrow ₹4,000 crore from non-banking financial company 360 One Prime (formerly IIFL Wealth Prime) to part-finance its acquisition of Anil Ambani-promoted Reliance Capital under the bankruptcy code, two people aware of the negotiations said. IndusInd International Holdings (IIHL), the holding company of Hinduja Group, is looking to borrow a total of ₹8,000 crore for the deal, but it has been facing pricing challenges with various credit funds demanding rates on the higher side. While 360 One Prime has offered to lend ₹4,000 crore at 14-15%, other private credit funds, including Ares SSG, too, have expressed interest in lending, albeit at higher interest rates and with better covenants, one of the people cited above told ET.

National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has dismissed a lawsuit demanding an investigation into the affairs of Indiabulls Housing Finance that was brought to court by Supertech Realtors. Supertech Realtors alleged that Indiabulls Housing Finance had illegally deducted excess sums of money from its loan account. In its lawsuit, the real estate firm alleged that the total sum accrued to it was ₹5,873 crore but Indiabulls Housing Finance deducted ₹6,150 crore from its loan account. It alleged that this was a fraudulent act which had public interest ramifications because it would impinge on its ability to deliver flats to customers.

Calcutta HC rejects imposition of Section 144 in North 24 Parganas district's Sandeshkhali
Calcutta High Court set aside the declaration of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC in North 24 Parganas district's Sandeshkhali on Tuesday. The HC, in another case, today took suo motu cognisance of allegations of sexual assault on women “at gunpoint” and transfer of tribal land at Sandeshkhali in West Bengal. Justice Joy Sengupta of Calcutta High Court today rejected the imposition of Section 144 in the entire Sandeshkhali. However, the court observed state has liberty to impose Section 144 in certain pockets after judicial review, people in the know said. Sandeshkhali has witnessed violent protests by women in the last one week and over allegations of atrocities on women and land grabbing by miscreants close to absconding Trinamool leader Shahjahan Sheikh. Additional forces of eight platoons will be deployed in Sandeshkhali, including deployment of the women forces, the court observed. Altogether 16 FIRs have been lodged in connection with Sandeshkhali, people in the know said.

Oppo, Nokia seek withdrawal of patent infringement case from Delhi High Court
Nokia Technologies and Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp on Tuesday informed the Delhi High Court that they want to withdraw their suits including the patent infringement filed by the former, as they have resolved their disputes and reached a confidential litigation settlement last month. Dismissing the suits as withdrawn, Justice Pratibha M Singh said that the parties would be bound by the terms and conditions of the global settlement. The HC also allowed refund of pro-tem security with interest deposited by Oppo during the proceedings within two weeks. It also directed that the confidential documents furnished by the companies in sealed covers or otherwise shall be returned to them and even ordered deletion of their electronic records in the HC.

Supreme Court on Tuesday asked Attorney General R Venkataramani to inform it whether a prosecution has been carried out ever under the provision of mandatory capital punishment to an individual who fabricates false evidence against an innocent member of a scheduled caste or a scheduled tribe. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and K V Viswanathan was hearing a PIL filed by advocate Rishi Malhotra, who has sought striking down of the mandatory death penalty provision under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. Section 3 (2) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 stipulates mandatory death sentence in a case where an innocent member of a scheduled caste or a scheduled tribe is convicted and is executed in consequence of a false and fabricated evidence given by the concerned accused. As the hearing commenced, Venkataramani submitted that it is important to have some data as to whether offences under this provision have occurred at all.

Kanhaiya Lal murder: NIA court frames charges against 9 accused
NIA court here on Tuesday framed charges, including under the anti-terror law UAPA, against nine people accused in the murder case of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal. Kanhaiya Lal was hacked to death at his shop in the busy Hathipole area of Udaipur on June 28, 2022 by two cleaver wielding men for allegedly supporting a social media post against Islam. The two accused, Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammad Gause, had also made a video of the act and posted it online, which sent shockwaves across the country. The case is being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

IAF trainer aircraft crashes in West Bengal; both pilots eject safely
Indian Air Force (IAF) met with an accident during a training sortie on Tuesday in West Bengal. Both the pilots ejected safely, according to the IAF. The plane crashed in civilian area near the Kalaikunda Air Force Station between 4 pm and 5 pm while returning from the training sortie. There was no loss of life or damage to civilian property in the accident. A Court of Inquiry has been constituted to find out the cause of the mishap.
