Delhi court sends AAP MLA Naresh Balyan to one-day judicial custody
Delhi court on Thursday sent AAP's Uttam Nagar MLA Naresh Balyan to one-day judicial custody in an alleged organised crime case. Special judge for lawmakers, Kaveri Baweja, sent Balyan to jail, considering that the arguments on Delhi police application seeking his 10-day custody for interrogation in the case under stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) would take more time. Special public prosecutor Akhand Pratap Singh, representing Delhi police, submitted that Balyan's interrogation was required to unearth the larger conspiracy in the case.

Countries have right to respond to situations but should be mindful of civilian casualty: Jaishankar
When asked the reason for India's abstention from a resolution in the UN General Assembly on October 27, 2023, regarding the protection of civilians and upholding legal and humanitarian obligations, Jaishankar said there were many resolutions in the UN General Assembly and in some India abstained and in some, it voted in favour. According to him, there are several reasons to abstain such as a resolution is not balanced, it is more divisive, it can set a precedence which has consequences for India or it has larger implications.

You can't claim parity with other ex-ministers: SC to Partha Chatterjee
Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its judgment on a bail plea by former Trinamool minister Partha Chatterjee in a money laundering case filed by Enforcement Directorate in an alleged cash-for-jobs scam. A bench of justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan observed that Chatterjee cannot claim parity with co-accused since they were not ministers. «On the face of it, you are a corrupt person. What message do you want us to send to society? That corrupt persons can get bail like this?,» justice Kant verbally told the counsel for the former education minister. The bench also found no force in the contention raised by Chatterjee's counsel that former ministers in other money laundering cases have been granted bail by the top court.

DC lawsuit says Amazon secretly stopped fast deliveries to two predominantly Black zip codes
Amazon, saying the company secretly stopped providing its fastest delivery service to residents who live in two predominantly Black Washington neighborhoods but is still charging residents millions of dollars for a service that provides speedy deliveries. The complaint, filed Wednesday in District of Columbia Superior Court, revolves around Amazon's Prime membership service, which charges consumers $139 per year or $14.99 per month for fast deliveries — including one-day, two-day and same-day shipments — as well as other benefits. In mid-2022, the lawsuit says, the Seattle-based online retailer imposed what it called a delivery «exclusion» on two zip codes in the district — 20019 and 20020 — and began relying exclusively on third-party delivery services such as UPS and the US Postal Service, rather than its own delivery systems.
