If curated further, New Zealand have a 3-1 edge over India in the ICC knockout matches. It's a disturbing loop for them. A section of the cricketing world has been vilifying them for the whole of last fortnight for having an unfair advantage because of their extended stay in Dubai.

There's plenty we've taken from the defeat to India in group stage: NZ opener Will Young
Will Young is focused on exploiting Rohit Sharma's side's weaknesses in the Champions Trophy final here on Sunday. Young has given a solid starts to the Black Caps in the Champions Trophy alongside Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra and he will be one of the key batters in the high-stakes final. «There is plenty we can take from that (group match defeat to India) in a scouting point of view, especially in my eyes as a batter, but I am sure the bowlers got a good look at their (India) batters as well and how they are likely to approach things,» Young told ICC about the 44-run defeat to India on March 2 at the same venue. «It was a great opportunity to see the style of cricket they will bring, especially at that venue and in those conditions,» he added.

Pakistani cricket icon Mohammad Hafeez gets slammed by Indian netizens after pics of his meeting with banned preacher Zakir Naik go viral
Zakir Naik, a polarizing Islamic preacher who is facing legal action in India over allegations of financial misconduct and promoting radical ideologies through inflammatory speeches. Hafeez went a step further by uploading images from their encounter on social media, a move that sparked widespread criticism and disappointment among netizens. As soon as the images surfaced online, social media users expressed strong disapproval. One individual, voicing their frustration, sarcastically remarked, «No surprise that your cricket is in shambles.» Another person provided a more pointed critique, highlighting the broader implications of Hafeez’s association with Naik. «This is exactly why the Indian cricket team and government are reluctant to visit Pakistan,» they commented. «The man in your picture is a fugitive wanted by Indian law enforcement.» Despite the backlash, Hafeez had shared the pictures with enthusiasm, captioning them with, «It was a pleasure meeting Zakir Naik.» In one image, Hafeez is seen standing beside Naik, dressed in a traditional brown kurta pajama. Another photograph captures them seated at a restaurant, with Hafeez appearing in a casual T-shirt. However, rather than receiving positive engagement, the post ignited a wave of online outrage.

Champions Trophy: David Miller backs New Zealand after ‘not ideal’ semifinal scheduling
David Miller said his team’s hop to Dubai and back ahead of t h e i r Champions Trophy semifinal defeat to New Zealand in Lahore was “not ideal”. The tangled scheduling of the event came into question as Australia and South Africa both had to fly to Dubai from Pakistan ahead of the semi-finals. South Africa were there for less than 24 hours before jetting back again without playing a game. Australia stayed and lost in the last four to India. The haphazard scheduling was a result of India playing all their games in Dubai after refusing to travel to Pakistan. “It’s only an hour and 40 minute flight, but the fact that we had to do that was not ideal,” Miller said after South Africa lost to New Zealand on Wednesday by 50 runs. South Africa made what was ultimately a wasted trip soon after defeating England in Karachi on Saturday. “It’s early morning, it’s after a game and we had to fly. Then we got to Dubai at 4:00 pm. And at 7.30 am we had to come back. It doesn’t make it nice.

Third Eye: Expressing concern, displeasure with High Court, and no prizes for guessing
Expressing concern: The Supreme Court on Wednesday expressed concern over ego clashes between IAS and IPS/IFS (forest service) officers. Speaking from his experience as a government lawyer and a judge for over two decades, senior SC Judge BR Gavai shared with solicitor general Tushar Mehta that there has always been a «conflict» between them. Justice Gavai said that IAS officers always show their «supremacy» over IPS and IFS officers. The development took place during a hearing pertaining to the omnibus forest protection matter. Displeasure with High Court The Supreme Court has recorded its displeasure with the way certain orders are passed by the Allahabad High Court. A bench headed by justice Abhay Oka on Wednesday disapproved of the way a revision appeal was decided by the high court. Remanding the case back to the Lucknow bench of HC for reconsideration, the top court directed the high court to call for the trial court record before deciding the matter. In January, another bench headed by justice Surya Kant had observed that the functioning of Allahabad High Court has been «worrisome». The bench had also observed that the filing and listing of cases in the Allahabad HC had «collapsed».

"MS Dhoni came up to me and said....": Ruturaj Gaikwad on how legend approached him for CSK captaincy role
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad opened up on how legendary five-time IPL-winning and World Cup-winning Indian skipper MS Dhoni approached him for captaincy ahead of the previous season and assured him that he will be getting to make his own calls. CSK will be kickstarting their upcoming IPL season against arch-rivals and five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) at Chennai on March 23. Last year, under Gaikwad's captaincy, CSK failed to defend their title, finishing at fifth spot with seven wins and seven losses, with 14 points. They missed out on the playoffs spot on basis of net-run-rate. Speaking exclusively on JioHotstar on CSK's leadership transition, the experts and the skipper himself said: Gaikwad said, «Just a week before the tournament last year, MS Dhoni came up to me and said, 'I am not leading this year--you are.' I was taken aback, asking, 'From the first game? Are you sure?' With just a few days to prepare, it was overwhelming. But he assured me, 'This is your team. You make your own decisions. I would not interfere--except when field placements are a 50-50 call. Even then, it is not a compulsion to follow my advice. That trust meant a lot to me.»
