Maharashtra's transport commissioner imposing certain conditions while deciding on applications for registration of vehicles under the BH series. A division bench of Justices Girish Kulkarni and Firdosh Pooniwalla, in its judgment on April 12, said the circular was issued «without any authority and, hence, flawed and illegal.» The court was hearing a petition filed by a civil judge challenging the circular and denial of his application seeking registration of his vehicle under the BH series, which was introduced by the government of India in 2021 to facilitate convenient transfer of vehicles in different states and Union Territories. According to Mahendra Patil, senior civil judge in the Maharashtra State Judicial Services, he submitted his official identity card, which as per the conditions is the only compliance required to be furnished.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), maximum temperatures hovered between 42 and 45 degrees Celsius in parts of Odisha and Rayalaseema, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Parts of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Uttar Pradesh recorded maximum temperatures between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperatures settled 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal in many parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha; and 2 to 4 degrees above normal in parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Telangana, the IMD said.

Conversely, West India is likely to experience no significant changes in maximum temperatures over the next two days, followed by a subsequent rise by 2-3°C.

direct tax collections surged by 17.7 per cent year-on-year to Rs 19.58 crore in the fiscal year ended March 2024 and exceeded the revised estimates by Rs 13,000 crore, according to the tax department. While gross direct tax collections (provisional) for the FY 2023-24 rose 18.48 per cent to Rs 23.37 lakh crore, net proceeds (after accounting for refunds) surged 17.7 per cent to Rs 19.58 lakh crore, reflecting buoyancy in the economy and rise in income levels of individuals and corporates. Refunds aggregating to Rs 3.79 lakh crore have been issued in FY 2023-24, the CBDT said in a statement.
