UPS Gap show country 2020 Department US trade gap narrows to smallest in nearly three years
US trade deficit in August to the smallest since late 2020, according to government data released on Thursday. The trade gap shrank to $58.3 billion, down nearly 10 percent from July's revised figure of $64.7 billion, said the Commerce Department. Analysts had expected a smaller change in deficit and the latest numbers showed exports rose $4.1 billion to $256 billion in August. Imports slipped by $2.3 billion from July to $314.3 billion. While consumer spending has helped to boost US trade, analysts have warned that this could weaken following steep interest rate hikes by the central bank over the past year — aimed at lowering inflation and cooling demand. «Trade flows have slowed overall,» economist Rubeela Farooqi of High Frequency Economics told AFP. «But quarter-to-date, exports are up and imports are down, suggesting some softening in domestic demand,» she added. The labor market remains strong and households are still spending.

UPS Lowe's electronic Department Standard IIT-Delhi researchers achieve secure quantum communication for 380 km in standard telecom fiber
IIT-Delhi researchers have achieved an experimental breakthrough on secure quantum communication up to a distance of 380 kilometres in standard telecom fiber with a very low error rate that can be helpful in securing financial transactions and secret codes. This long secure length is the highest achieved so far, not only in India but globally, for the Differential Phase Shift (DPS) QKD protocol, according to officials. The results of the research by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Delhi researchers has also been published in the «Nature Scientific Reports» journal. «Such low quantum bit error rate (QBER) makes the quantum communication resistance to collective and individual attacks and implementable for various applications, such as securing financial transactions, medical records and secret codes,» said Bhaskar Kanseri, lead researcher and associate professor at IIT-Delhi's Physics Department and Optics and Photonics Centre. «It is also capable of securing network communication such as Internet of Things (IoT) and ready to revolutionise the field of cyber security,» Kanseri said. He added that this realisation using state-of-the-art technology will not only help in reducing the need for trusted nodes for intercity or long-distance quantum key exchange, increasing the security of the cryptography scheme, but also prove to be a crucial step towards the commercial production of long-distance secure practical QKD devices.

Skilling programmes cannot have only supply-focused training mechanisms. Whether one gets skilled through formal college education or through vocational skilling programmes or through professional certificates, these programmes need to anticipate industry-based jobs demand and accordingly plan the required skilling. The actions to implement this are required at multiple levels. Some of the methods needed include public-private partnerships. Recently, the Ministry of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) signed eight memoranda of understanding (MOUs) to address this gap. One of the MOUs was with IBM. This covered skilling at the school level, higher education level and through vocational avenues. In higher education, the plan through this partnership is to work with the Department of Higher Education, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training & Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh, and state skilling missions. The students are expected to be given access to digital content, experiential learning, and new skills for technical careers.
