Nayab Singh Saini Sunday said 'Agniveers' will be provided 20 per cent reservation in the police recruitment in the state. In July 2024, months ahead of state assembly polls, the BJP government in the state had announced a 10 per cent reservation for Agniveers in the recruitment of constables, forest guards and jail wardens, along with quotas in other posts. Chairing a review meeting in Panchkula on Sunday, Saini said Haryana is the first state in the country which has secured the future of Agniveers by creating a provision for jobs after their service period in the armed forces. The Haryana Cabinet has already provided security cover to the Agniveers by implementing the Haryana Agniveer Policy-2024. According to an official statement, the chief minister said Agniveers will be provided 20 per cent reservation in the recruitment of state police. Saini said Agniveers will be able to get jobs in Haryana after their service period in the Army and for this, a separate portal will be created for them on which they can register themselves. After this, they will be given preference in jobs on the basis of educational qualification, he added.

Reserve Bank of India's rate-setting panel is set to take its first monetary policy decision of the financial year in a review meetings starting Monday, amid a significant moderation in headline inflation over recent months. A Reuters poll of economists forecasts a 25 basis point cut in rates at the meeting. The RBI typically conducts six bimonthly meetings in a financial year, where it deliberates interest rates, money supply, inflation outlook, and various macroeconomic indicators. The other five meetings are scheduled for June 4-6, August 5-7, September 29-October 1, December 3-5, and February 4-6. In the previous MPC meeting on February 7, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had unanimously decided to reduce the policy rate by 25 basis points (bps) from 6.5 per cent to 6.25 per cent. This was the first rate cut in about 5 years. The repo rate is the rate of interest at which the RBI lends to other banks.

Delhi court has directed Tihar Jail authorities to respond to a startling allegation from Christian Michel James — the British national accused of being a middleman in the AgustaWestland VVIP helicopter case. In an application moved before the court, he requested heightened security measures, citing an ongoing threat to his life, as reported by TOI. Special Judge Sanjeev Aggarwal took the allegation seriously and ordered the Director General of Tihar Prisons to submit a detailed report. “A report be also called from the DG (Prisons), Tihar Jail on the above application of accused No 35 (James)… with directions to file a status report as to what action was taken with regard to the allegations made by the aforesaid accused… regarding the alleged attempts on his life on dates mentioned in the said application by way of poisoning,” the judge said, as reported by TOI. The court has asked for the report to be filed by 16 April.

US Department of Defence (Pentagon) will investigate Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth's use of Signal in a group chat with other national security officials to discuss military actions against the Houthis in Yemen last month, according to a letter from the IG's office on Thursday, CNN reported. In a letter to Hegseth, Acting Inspector General Steven Stebbins notified him of an upcoming evaluation following a request from the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Stebbins said that the evaluation is in response to recent public reports regarding Hegseth's use of an «unclassified commercial messaging application» to discuss military actions in Yemen in March. «The purpose of this memorandum is to notify you that we are initiating the subject evaluation. We are conducting this evaluation in response to a March 26, 2025, letter I received from the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, requesting that I conduct an inquiry into recent public reporting on the Secretary of Defense's use of an unclassified commercially available messaging application to discuss information pertaining to military actions in Yemen in March 2025,» the letter stated. The letter further stated, «The objective of this evaluation is to determine the extent to which the Secretary of Defense and other DoD personnel complied with DoD policies and procedures for the use of a commercial messaging application for official business. Additionally, we will review compliance with classification and records retention requirements.»
