Private terminal operators at ports may soon get to fix tariffs
tariff fixation for existing private terminal operators at ports administered by the central government, officials said. The move is aimed at giving flexibility to private operators in deciding tariffs. As per the tariff migration guidelines being firmed up, all public-private partnership (PPP) concessionaires will be allowed to frame their own Scale of Rates (SoR) and shift to market-based tariffs, a government official told ET. «This will usher in a level playing field among public-private partnership terminal operators that have been adhering to multiple tariff regimes,» the official said.

cyber commandos will be trained at Gujarat based Rastriya Raksha University (RRU) for six months starting from October 1, 2024, as the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has identified 300 cops to be trained at ten different institutes. The batch of 30 policemen includes rank from additional SP to constable and these police officers have come from 20 States including Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Rajasthan Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh. “The six months training module will consist of lectures on Ethical hacking, incident response Strategy, digital forensic, cyber forensic, dark web, OSINT, thread hunting, cyber diplomacy among others,” Pro-Vice Chancellor of RRU, Prof Kalpesh H Wandra told ET. According to MHA officials, the batch of 300 police officers have been sub-divided into 10 groups of 30 officers and has been assigned to 10 different centers including RRU. “The trained officers will be posted back to their respective states and will be responsible for cyber investigation and prevention of large cyber-attacks. Wealthy farmers must pay taxes: Closing the income gap for a fairer India
Viksit Bharat' plan, it must face the stark reality of economic inequality, especially in the agricultural sector, where disparities run deep. The farm sector employs nearly 50% of the population, but contributes only 17% to GDP, reflecting a vast divide between smallholders with marginal incomes and a small group of wealthy farmers. Implementing a well-structured taxation policy for affluent farmers is crucial to correcting this imbalance and generating revenue. Farm income is exempt from taxation under Section 10(1) of Income-Tax Act 1961. This provision was designed to shield small and marginal farmers from financial strain. However, exemption has inadvertently allowed wealthy farmers to avoid paying taxes, even though they benefit disproportionately from public infra, subsidies and services compared to small-scale farmers. According to People Research on India's Consumer Economy's (PRICE) ICE 360° survey, there are about 5 mn 'wealthy farmers', each earning over ₹25 lakh annually, with two-thirds of their income coming from agriculture, and the rest from non-farm activities. Though this group represents only 8% of the farming population, they control 28% of the sector's income.

Most students, corporates prefer 4-6 month internships: Report
Internships have increasingly become a preferred mode of candidate selection for many corporations and most students and corporates prefer 4 to 6 months (one semester) of internships as an appropriate time for learning, says a report. According to a report by AI-powered recruitment automation firm HirePro students (53 per cent), colleges (40 per cent) and corporates (57 per cent) prefer internships that last for 4-6 months (one semester) as it is neither too long nor too short. Students see internships as an opportunity to learn the real-world nuances of what they study in classrooms, while being mentored by a knowledgeable expert, said the report. For corporations, it found that it is a great way to closely observe a candidate and see how quickly they can learn and start delivering on tasks. However, colleges endorse 10-12 months long internships for students to be industry-ready, it added.
