cyber commandos will be trained at Gujarat based Rastriya Raksha University (RRU) for six months starting from October 1, 2024, as the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has identified 300 cops to be trained at ten different institutes. Union home minister Amit Shah had last month announced a core group of about 5,000 highly trained police officers or cyber commandos who instantly respond to and prevent cyberattacks across the country will be ready in the next five years.
The batch of 30 policemen includes rank from additional SP to constable and these police officers have come from 20 States including Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Rajasthan Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh. “The six months training module will consist of lectures on Ethical hacking, incident response Strategy, digital forensic, cyber forensic, dark web, OSINT, thread hunting, cyber diplomacy among others,” Pro-Vice Chancellor of RRU, Prof Kalpesh H Wandra told ET.
According to MHA officials, the batch of 300 police officers have been sub-divided into 10 groups of 30 officers and has been assigned to 10 different centers including RRU. “The trained officers will be posted back to their respective states and will be responsible for cyber investigation and prevention of large cyber-attacks. The plan is to train as many as cyber commandos in the next five years,” the official added.
