Piyush Goyal proposes indigenous Silicon Valley to promote startup ecosystem
Piyush Goyal, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, has called for an indigenous Silicon Valley, a dedicated township for startups in India, at the launch of Bharat Startup Knowledge Access Registry (Bhaskar). It serves as a central hub for collaboration and exchange of ideas between startups, investors, service providers and government bodies. Goyal pitched a vision to promote the sector's growth, building the largest digital registry for stakeholders within the startup ecosystem. He proposed a township of 25-500 acres to promote the startup ecosystem and provide guidance and support under one roof. On India’s position in the Silicon valley, ET reported earlier about one-third of tech employees in Silicon Valley are of Indian origin. It further said that CEOs of Indian origin head 16 Fortune 500 companies generating nearly $1 trillion in revenue.

Rate cuts in Europe keep Indian IT sector's hopes up
technology budgets soon as Europe has started reducing interest rates and the US is expected to follow suit. While industry analysts foresee this as a tailwind along with the ongoing digital adoption by enterprises, they said the impact on the industry may be felt only by the fourth quarter of this fiscal ending March 2025. «We think the first change will reflect in the management commentary turning more optimistic and references to green shoots in discretionary demand pickup,» said Kumar Rakesh, associate director at BNP Paribas, who closely tracks the IT sector. «Impact on earnings will likely take a little longer and we think it will start reflecting in CY2025.»

Upskilling is how you make AI work for you
IT industry to continuously upskill its talent pool, top executives and experts caution. The country has to not just skill but unskill quickly, they said. “A GCC (global capability centre) of some bank in the US that’s got 10,000 people here is asking the question – why do I need these people in India when a model I’m running under my desktop can do or generate the same thing?” Nigel Vaz, CEO of global digital business transformation company Publicis Sapient, told ET in a recent interview.

E2E Networks is the talk of the town as AI frenzy takes hold
E2E Networks, an artificial intelligence cloud service provider, is getting a lot of attention that the National Stock Exchange-listed company has probably not seen in the 15 years since its inception. The company started offering graphics processing units (GPUs) for cloud computing in 2018, when nobody else was in the market in India. The bet is now paying off, with a customer list of 2,500-3,000 companies, mostly startups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and also some big companies. Its stock has yielded almost 280% year-to-date, which according to Bloomberg data makes it one of the top-performing IT stocks of 2024. Delhi-based E2E is well-positioned to participate in the India AI Mission’s tender to procure 10,000 GPUs as part of a consortium.

Retail users power up e-Rupee transactions
Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), or e-rupee, is gaining traction among retail users, with the Reserve Bank of India widening the scope of participation. E-rupee worth ₹234.12 crore was in circulation as of March 2024, compared with ₹16.3 crore a year earlier, according to RBI data. «The multi-fold jump could be due to a few big banks pushing CBDC wallets among their employees,» said a senior banker. «The rise in CDDC transactions could be because the banking regulator has allowed interoperability between CBDC and Unified Payments Interface,» the same person said.

How being aware of good habits can help you thrive
good habits — because good habits are not so deep-rooted as bad habits. Good habits need much sacrifice on your part, so, very few people try to cultivate good habits. And even those who try to cultivate good habits try very few good habits; just underneath, there are many bad habits. First, try neutral, then good, then move by and by to bad habits. And, finally, remember that each habit has to be made aware. Once you have become aware of your whole habitual pattern, that habitual pattern is your mind. Any day the shift will happen. Suddenly, you will be in no-mind — when all the habits of your life have become aware… Any day, when that situation, that point, comes — at one hundred degrees — suddenly, a shift will happen....

An anecdote from the Vanishing by Tim Krabbe
Autoroute du Soleil violet, the ribbons of cars tapered off. Rex Hofman and Saskia Ehlvest had been travelling for ten hours, and were still about one hour removed from the end point of their first stage: a hotel in Nuits-St-Georges, not far from Dijon. That lay a bit off the most logical route, but Saskia had found the name worth the minor detour.
