Parliamentary panel presses MIB to expedite Broadcast Bill rollout
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) to set a deadline for completing the process and introducing the Broadcasting Services Regulation Bill in Parliament at the earliest opportunity. The committee made this recommendation in a draft action-taken report on its observations and recommendations from the 56th report on the regulation of cable television in India, which was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday. The second draft of the Broadcast Bill, introduced in July, was withdrawn in August last year following backlash from media industry stakeholders over the lack of transparency in consultations, which were held with only a select group. Another major concern of the industry was that the Bill contained vague terms that could potentially grant arbitrary powers to government officials. In its response to the committee on 17 January, the MIB stated that a fresh draft of the Bill would be published after detailed consultations.

Greenland in the spotlight: Why Trump wants to gain control of the 4,000-year-old civilisation
Donald Trump seeks to secure control over the mineral-rich Arctic territory. While most people associate Greenland with its icy terrain at the top of the world, the island’s history stretches back over 4,000 years, shaped by various human cultures and pivotal geopolitical events. A self-governing region of Denmark, Greenland has been home to diverse groups, from early Inuit migrants and Norse settlers to Lutheran missionaries and U.S. military personnel. Diversity pullback: Tech giants lead US companies in pulling back on initiatives
equity and inclusion initiatives that much of corporate America endorsed following the protests that accompanied the Minneapolis police killing of George Floyd, a Black man, in 2020. The changes have come in response to a campaign by conservative activists to target workplace programs in the courts and social media, and more recently, President Donald Trump's executive orders aimed at upending DEI policies in both the federal government and private sector. DEI policies typically are intended to root out systemic barriers to the advancement of historically marginalized groups in certain fields or roles. Critics argue that some education, government and business programs are discriminatory because they single out participants based on factors such as race, gender and sexual orientation. They have targeted corporate sponsorships, employee-led affinity groups, programs aimed at steering contracts to minority or women-owned businesses, and goals that some companies established for increasing minority representation in leadership ranks.

Amid growing focus on DEI, gap between high-maturity organisations and their peers is widening, says new study
Corporate India on the whole, is still at a ‘progressive’ stage (L2), finds the analysis of 251 organisations, including 40 Nifty100 Companies and 8 of the top 10 Indian business houses, by talent and leadership consulting firm BasilTree Consulting — where organisations have formal strategies and defined initiatives, but DEI is yet to become a true business driver. Over a third of companies are still at the ‘emerging’ stage (L1), treating DEI as compliance-led and event-driven, while only a small fraction has reached a ‘transformative’ (L4) stage, where inclusion is embedded into culture, strategy, and measurable business impact. The more mature companies – belonging to the Nifty-100 list, are in the L3 bracket.
