After his arrival here, CM Patel held a closed-door meeting with nearly 150 key leaders who are campaigning for both the seats. Later, he met office-bearers of various local bodies and cooperative entities under the Porbandar Lok Sabha seat, said a party leader. Mandaviya, Modhwadia, state minister Kunvarji Bavaliya and senior party leader Kiritsinh Rana were among the key leaders who met CM Patel.

AAP leader Atishi on Wednesday alleged that the BJP was «openly» violating the model code of conduct and the Election Commission was not acting against it, affecting the level-playing field in the Lok Sabha polls. In an interview to PTI, she said the AAP was hopeful of opening its account in Assam where the party has fielded candidates in two seats — Dibrugarh and Sonitpur, which are going to the polls in the first phase on April 19. «Yesterday AAP had a rally in Tinsukia. Digvijaya Singh on Wednesday termed allegations against the Congress over the Katchatheevu island issue as «baseless». Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai on Wednesday took strong exception to Congress leader Digvijaya Singh's remark on Katchatheevu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded an unconditional apology. Accusing the Congress leaders of having «no guilt» for having compromised on our territorial integrity by ceding Katchatheevu to Sri Lanka and for putting the lives of Tamil Nadu fishermen at risk, he said the views expressed by the Congress leaders on the subject only displayed their mindset. «Not a Blade of grass grows there' for Aksai Chin & 'who lives there' for Katchatheevu reflects Congress' mindset,» Annamalai said in a post on 'X' referring to the earlier remark made by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on Aksai Chin and now Congress leader Digvijaya SIngh's comments on the islet given to Lanka. Annamalai posted a video of Singh criticising Modi for raising the Katchatheevu issue.

Samajwadi Party general secretary and party nominee from Budaun Lok Sabha seat, Shivpal Singh Yadav, on Wednesday alleged that some officials of the district are working at the behest of the BJP leaders. He accused these officials of threatening the village heads, block development committee (BDC) members and others to work for the ruling party and said he has complained about it to District Magistrate (DM) Manoj Kumar. If the DM does not take action in this connection, we will complain about this to the Election Commission, he said. Election Commission on Wednesday directed clear identification of the printer and publisher on printed election-related material, including hoardings, in a bid to ensure accountability and transparency in poll campaigning. The poll authority said the decision was taken by it after representations were received stating that in hoarding spaces controlled by municipal authorities, hoardings without the identity of the printer or publisher have been noticed. The Aam Aadmi Party had also approached the EC on the issue recently. The EC pointed to section 127A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 which prohibits the printing or publishing of election pamphlets, posters, placards, or banners without prominently displaying the name and address of the printer and publisher.

Lok Sabha elections 2024: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday directed all states and union territories to trace the printers and publishers from the election-related material including hoardings. The direction is another step by the poll commission to ensure accountability and transparency in campaign communications ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday urged people to provide inputs for preparation of the party's manifesto for the simultaneous assembly and Lok Sabha polls in the state. Patnaik also constituted a 38-member 'manifesto committee' headed by Berhampur MP Chandrasekhar Sahu. «The panel will have discussions with various sections of society… and prepare a manifesto that will lead to transformation towards a 'New Odisha, Empowered Odisha',» Patnaik said in an official notification. Senior party leader Amar Patnaik was appointed as convenor of the committee, while Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra will be the co-convenor, officials said.

Election Commission on Wednesday 'adjourned' the Lok Sabha poll in Betul seat of Madhya Pradesh, which was to be held on April 26 in phase two, following the death of a BSP candidate. The electoral exercise in the seat will be now held in the third phase on May 7. According to the Commission, the BSP candidate died on April 9 and the election was adjourned under Section 52 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 by the returning officer. If a candidate of a recognised national or state party dies before poll, the election is adjourned to allow the party identify and field a fresh candidate.

He especially singled out the DMK over alleged corruption, saying the Dravidian party had the «first copyright» on the issue and added the «family» was intent on looting the state, in an apparent reference to the party's first family, headed by its president and Chief Minister M K Stalin. «The DMK has the first copyright on corruption, the entire family is looting Tamil Nadu,» he said at an election rally here, while canvassing votes for NDA candidates, including BJP nominees for the April 19 Lok Sabha elections in the state. He further charged the DMK with being «a family company,» that was impeding the progress of the state's youth with its «old mindset.»
