Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday hit out at the government for tweaking an election rule to prevent public inspection of certain electronic documents, alleging it is part of the Modi government's «systematic conspiracy» to destroy the institutional integrity of the Election Commission. Kharge also said the Modi government's «calibrated erosion» of the ECI's integrity is a frontal attack on the Constitution and democracy. The government has tweaked an election rule to prevent public inspection of certain electronic documents such as CCTV camera and webcasting footage as well as video recordings of candidates to prevent their misuse. Based on the recommendation of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Union law ministry on Friday amended Rule 93(2)(a) of the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961, to restrict the type of «papers» or documents open to public inspection.

Indian exporters of garments, handicrafts, and engineering goods expect 5-10% gains from the rupee’s depreciation, but more import-dependent sectors such as gems and jewellery and electronics see rising oil and commodity prices offsetting any benefits, trade insiders said. Moreover, the sharper depreciation of the Chinese yuan, Japanese yen, and Mexican peso against the US dollar may prompt buyers to pressure Indian exporters to pass on the gains, besides undermining any long-term competitive advantage from the rupee’s fall, they said. The rupee hit an all-time low of 85.09 per dollar on Thursday, crossing the 85 mark for the first time. On Friday, the rupee hit a new low of 85.10/$1. Almost 60% of India’s goods trade is in dollars, and the depreciation will help traditional sectors such as textiles and leather.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has dismissed the Congress party's vehement objection to Electronic Voting Machines, and echoed the BJP's defence — you can't accept election results when you win, and blame EVMs when you lose. «When you get a hundred plus members of Parliament using the same EVMs, and you celebrate that as sort of a victory for your party, you can't then a few months later turn around and say… we don't like these EVMs because now the election results aren't going the way we would like them to,» Abdullah told PTI in an exclusive interview on Friday. Told that he sounded suspiciously like a BJP spokesman, Abdullah reacted with «God forbid!» He then added: «No, it's just that… what's right is right.» He said he speaks based on principles rather than with partisan loyalty and cited his support for infrastructure projects like the Central Vista as an example of his independent thinking.

markets UPS Manufacturing Mobile Apple Experts electronic India’s power surge
manufacturing of various products, including mobile and information technology hardware, helped India achieve scale in the final assembly of electronics products. Experts believe that as India harbours ambitions to establish itself as the electronics manufacturing hub of the world, the country's next step is to go deeper into the supply chain and work on increasing the domestic value addition. The percentage of local value addition should increase from 18-20% to 40% within the next five years, they added. Another crucial step, most experts and industry groups believe, is to have a scheme which will help develop from scratch the near-absent domestic electronic component supply base in India.
