Dibrugarh (Assam): The superintendent of Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam was arrested on Friday over the seizure of electronic gadgets, including a smartphone, from the possession of inmates belonging to radical outfit 'Waris Punjab De', police said. The jail official was arrested early in the morning for «laxity» and is currently at Dibrugarh Sadar Police Station, an officer said. He said the arrest was made in connection with the seizure of electronic gadgets cells of the National Security Act (NSA) detenues in the jail last month. Among the gadgets seized from the possession of the inmates belonging to the pro-Khalistani outfit were a smartphone along with a SIM card, a keypad phone, a TV remote with keyboard, a spy-camera pen, pen-drives, a bluetooth headphone and speakers.

NEW DELHI : The Union cabinet on Thursday approved an India AI Mission, raised dearness allowance (DA) for central employees and pensioners and extended its flagship cooking gas subsidy scheme, clearing a slew of decisions ahead of the upcoming general elections. The ₹10,372 crore India AI Mission will aim to build a base of graphic processing units (GPUs), multi-modal domain-specific large language models (LLMs), and a unified data platform. It will offer an open-source database of non-personal data that can be used to train AI models and market artificial intelligence (AI) applications commercially.

NEW DELHI : India’s mobile phone exports are expected to cross ₹1.2 trillion at the end of this financial year, reaching a major milestone propelled by the government’s thrust on phone makers such as Apple and Samsung to manufacture locally. The exports would account for nearly one-third of the total domestic production of mobile phones, projected at about ₹4.1 trillion in FY24, the Indian Cellular and Electronics Association said on Thursday.
