In an interview with PTI from Paris, Giannini, who is also the former Minister of Education in Italy, said each technological revolution has had broad social and educational implications, radically changing the way we live and how we learn. Labour-intensive industries need to be promoted to generate more jobs: Raghuram Rajan
Reserve Bank of India’s former governor Raghuram Rajan said that India was creating enough jobs as reflected by the number of applicants for vacant posts in some states with 7 per cent economic growth. Rajan suggested that the focus must be on promoting labour-intensive industries to generate employment. He further said that some Indians at the upper-level are comfortable and have high incomes, but consumption growth from the lower half of the country has not recovered to pre-pandemic levels. «That is the unfortunate part...You would think with 7 per cent growth, we would be creating a lot of jobs. But if you look at our manufacturing growth, it is more capital intensive,» he told PTI.

As Chandrababu Naidu works to fund poll promises, Andhra yet to present Budget
Andhra Pradesh is the only state in India that has not yet presented its budget for 2024-25, an unusual occurrence though not unconstitutional, according to experts. Even though the N Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition government completed 100 days in power on September 19, it is still drawing funds under Andhra Pradesh Appropriation (vote on account no. 2) Ordinance. Article 116 of the Constitution lays down the provision of vote on account that empowers the government to withdraw funds from the Consolidated Fund of India to meet the expenditure requirements for a limited period, usually right before an election. In this case, Andhra Pradesh assembly elections were held together with parliamentary polls and Odisha assembly elections. Both Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Naidu took oath on June 12. While Majhi presented the budget on July 25, Andhra government chose an unprecedented strategy and said it was trying to gauge its finances before presenting the budget. Naidu's white paper on state finance showed Andhra has a debt burden of ₹10 lakh crore. A vote on account was passed to address financial requirements between August 1 and November 30.

Fragmented laws not enough, says ex-SC judge; calls for comprehensive climate law in India
Supreme Court judge Justice Hima Kohli has advocated for a robust national climate law, saying the current environmental legislations are often fragmented and insufficient to tackle the complexities of climate change. Addressing an event on the topic «Climate Liability, Justice, and Jurisprudence» on Friday, she also said the top court's landmark judgment in the M K Ranjit Sinh case paves the way for strengthening India's environmental laws and integrating human rights into climate discussions. «There is a pressing need for comprehensive legislation dedicated specifically for climate change. India has several environmental laws in place, but they are often fragmented and sometimes found to be insufficient to address the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change. »A robust national climate law grounded in constitutional principles and aligned with international obligations is, to my mind, the way forward," she said.

YouTubers run for cover, but insurers lack policy umbrella
YouTubers, facing a surge in cyberattacks, are increasingly exploring cyber insurance to protect their businesses and digital assets. The recent hacking of popular creator Ranveer Allahbadia's channel, which resulted in the deletion of several videos, has raised the need of content creators. Content creators with 100,000 subscribers typically earn ₹75,000 to ₹2.25 lakh per month, while those with over one million followers can rake in as much as ₹7.5 lakh monthly, excluding additional earnings from promotions of ₹5 lakh to ₹20 lakh, experts said. India has over 92,935 YouTube channels with at least 100,000 subscribers, making it the largest market for such content worldwide. «After this incident, we expect demand for cover from YouTubers to come,» said Sharad Mathur, MD and CEO, Universal Sompo General Insurance. «Now, they have realised the kind of risk they are exposed to and need to cover their content.»
