BJP hopes to clip Oppn resurgence and win all bypoll seats in UP, political experts say not easy
elections, the BJP has vowed to win all 10 assembly seats, where by-elections are to be held, underlining its dominance in the state and sending a message to the Opposition that its recent resurgence was short-lived. Political observers, however, say it could be an uphill task for the ruling NDA alliance. Bypolls are to be held on 10 seats that fell vacant after nine MLAs were elected as MPs in this year's Lok Sabha elections and the MLA of Sishamau was convicted and given a seven-year jail sentence. However, the dates for the polls have not been announced yet. «Let us all pledge that we will achieve 100 per cent victory in the upcoming by-elections on 10 assembly seats,» BJP's UP unit president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary exhorted party workers at the party's state working committee meeting held on July 14.

Govt eases cross-border share swap rules to woo foreign money
equity instruments of a local company in exchange for those of a foreign firm in a significant rejig of foreign investment norms. Investments by an overseas citizen of India (OCI) on a non-repatriation basis would not be counted as indirect foreign investment, as per the changes, which were announced late on Friday. The amendments in the Foreign Exchange Management (Non-debt Instruments) Rules follow the budget pledge by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman to simplify overseas investment rules. The latest changes have aligned the provisions governing downstream investments by overseas citizens of India with those for non-residents. This, experts said, would encourage greater participation of NRIs in the country's economy. Easier share swap rules will «facilitate global expansion of Indian companies through mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives», the finance ministry said. The government also clarified that transfer of all shares in companies having foreign direct investment (FDI) from countries sharing land borders with India would require prior nod irrespective of the sector.

1000-year-old pyramid in Mexico partially collapsed due to rains, drought, heat. Details here
The pyramid, which was built 1000 years ago, is located in Michoacan state. The pyramid has rich history of being part of a seat of power in Ihuatzio, Fox Weather reported quoting Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History. This summer’s intense heat and prolonged drought unleashed a series of misfortunes upon the ancient pyramid, as scorching temperatures and arid conditions conspired to fracture its once-imposing facade. The relentless sun cracked the stone, and when the long-awaited rain finally arrived, it seeped into these vulnerable crevices, exacerbating the damage and undermining the pyramid's stability.

₹5 trillion has been detected, and of this, ₹1.2 trillion has been paid voluntarily by the assesses," the first person said. A large chunk of the total tax evasion detected—about ₹1 trillion—accounts for using fake input tax credits, said the person. The value of the taxable sales in these cases would be significantly higher than ₹5 trillion as GST is levied only as a percentage of the sale value.
