Met department has issued heavy rainfall warning for four districts of Odisha in the wake of Cyclone Remal approaching the coast. Under its impact, heavy rainfall of 7 to 11 cm has been predicted for Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara and Mayurbhanj districts. Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Satyabrata Sahu reviewed the preparations made by the collectors of the four districts in view of the warning, officials said. Around 20,000 fishing boats were safely berthed and collectors of the four districts were instructed to use Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and fire services in case a situation arises, they said.

Nepal’s Department of Food Technology and Quality reported that the ban is due to the suspicion of ethylene oxide contamination. The banned spices include madras curry powder, sambhar mixed masala powder, mixed masala curry powder of MDH, and fish curry masala of Everest. The importers and traders are requested to recall these products from the Nepalese market. “As residue contents of ethylene oxide are found to be exceeding the prescribed limit in these four products, the import and sale of these products are banned within the country as per Article 19 of the Food Regulation 2027 B.S.,” Nepal's Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, in a notice said.

Retail inflation eases slightly in April, food inflation rises While the CPI inflation remains above the Reserve Bank of India’s target of 4 per cent, it has been within the central bank's tolerance range of 2-6 per cent for the eighth consecutive month. In July and August last year, retail inflation prints had come to 7.44 per cent and 6.83 per cent, respectively. India's retail inflation has been easing since December 2023, when it rose 5.69 per cent.

Mint poll of 22 economists had estimated India's retail inflation to remain broadly unchanged at 4.87% in April. CPI inflation remained above the central bank’s target of 4% but has stayed within its tolerance range of 2-6% for the eighth consecutive month. Overall, food inflation was 8.70% in April, up from 8.52% in March, and 8.66% in February, due to a rise in the prices of cereals, meat and fish, and fruit.
