First consignment of Hilsa reaches West Bengal from Bangladesh, second lot to arrive soon
Hilsa have reached West Bengal from Bangladesh, after the interim government in the neighbouring country allowed export of the fish to till mid-October during the Durga puja festival, importers said on Saturday. Another consignment of the same amount of 'Padmar Ilish' (hilsa caught from Padma river), a favourite delicacy of Bengalis, is expected very soon. The Fish Importers' Association recently wrote to Bangladesh's interim government urging it to allow export of Hilsa as it has been doing during the festival as a goodwill gesture for the last five years. «The first consignment of over 50 metric tonnes arrived two days back via Petrapole border. It was sent to several wholesale markets in Kolkata and districts. Another consignment of around 50 MT is expected to arrive in a day,» Association secretary Syed Anwar Maqsood told PTI.

Meet Pesto the Penguin, the chubby star who's waddling into hearts everywhere and went viral overnight
Pesto has gained international attention due to his extraordinary size. Pesto, housed at Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium in Australia, is a king penguin and is significantly larger than what is typical for his species. At nine months old, Pesto stands 90 cm tall and weighs 22.5 kg, surpassing even his caregiver parents, Tango and Hudson. King penguins generally grow between 70 cm and 100 cm and weigh 14 kg to 16 kg as adults. Michaela Smale, a senior keeper at Sea Life Melbourne, stated to 9News that Pesto has become a viral sensation. «Pesto has reached more than 1.9 billion people across the globe, so he really is a drawcard for visitation to Victoria,» she said. Pesto was born in January weighing just 200 grams. At three months, he weighed 9.1 kg, and now, at nine months, he has grown significantly. Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium explains, «The combination of good genes and good parents explains his current weight, but he will lose a lot of this when he fledges.»

Bangladesh clarifies hilsa export to India as economic move, not a gift
hilsa fish being sent to India is not a gift but an export aimed at generating foreign currency for Dhaka, reported TOI. Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, stated that they did not want to close the door on discussions with India over minor issues. «The decision came from the top level,» she said, emphasising that the export value of hilsa was significant and should not be underestimated. «The price has already increased so it's not accurate to say prices will rise further due to export. This matter is under govt's consideration,» noted the TOI report.

TTD board was altered for political gain, says Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan amid Tirupati Prasadam row
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Sunday said that the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams board was «altered for political gain» by the previous government after CM Chandrababu Naidu alleged that YSRCP govt used 'animal fat' in Laddu Prasadam given at Tirumala Temple in Tirupati. The Janasena Party chief statement comes as he started 11 days 'Prayaschitta Diksha' at Sri Dasavatara Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Guntur as penance. «Prasadam distribution has been ongoing for more than 100 years. But under YSRCP's rule, TTD board was altered for political gain. The Sri Venkateswara Trust was established, leading to various scams. Worship protocols were changed, and over 300 temples were desecrated,» Kalyan said.

Tirupati laddu row: Union Minister Giriraj Singh demands CBI inquiry
Giriraj Singh on Friday demanded a CBI inquiry over the alleged use of substandard ingredients and animal fat in the preparation of the world renowned Tirupati laddu. The ruling Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday claimed that the adulteration had been confirmed by a Gujarat-based livestock laboratory. Speaking to PTI Videos, Singh said, there should be a CBI inquiry into the matter and that the agency should investigate how much TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams), which has worth Rs 20,000 crore, has spent on acquiring ghee to make prasadam? This is not just a scam but also a conspiracy to destroy Hinduism.

Tirupati Laddu controversy: TDP shows "lab report" claiming "beef tallow" in the consecrated sweet
Amaravati: Amid the controversy over the alleged use of substandard ingredients and animal fat in the preparation of the world renowned Tirupati laddu, the ruling Telugu Desam Party on Thursday claimed that the adulteration has been confirmed by a Gujarat-based livestock laboratory. TDP spokesperson Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy in a press conference displayed the purported lab report which apparently confirmed the presence of "beef tallow" in the given ghee sample. The purported lab report also claimed the presence of «lard» (relating to pig fat) and fish oil in the samples. The sample receipt date was July 9, 2024 and the lab report was dated July 16. However, there was no official confirmation on the lab report from either the Andhra Pradesh government or the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the famous Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple.

Are you adding new mutual funds to portfolio amid rising market for better returns? Not a good idea, follow this instead
The voracious appetite among MF investors is evident in the flows pouring into funds. Gross money invested via systematic investment plans (SIPs) surged to an all-time high of Rs.23,547 crore in August. The total number of SIP accounts reached 9.61 crore, while the folio count surpassed 20 crore. The share of equity funds in total AUM now constitutes 62% of the industry’s AUM—an all time high—showing a growing appetite for risk. Individual share in total AUM has grown from 54.9% to 63.2%. However, investors are not simply putting more money in the existing funds in their baskets. They are adding new funds in a bid to boost their returns. This is a familiar story in every bull market. As fund performance kicks into higher gear and gets entrenched, investors start getting adventurous. They start fishing for bigger opportunities for outsized return. Recent table-toppers are the obvious targets for most. A recent study by ICICIdirect.com shows that investors have been piling on schemes that have topped the charts in the past three years.
