economy Food wellness country recommendations rights David Rosenberg: These 14 stocks could benefit from Canada's immigration boom
Even with record low fertility and birth rates, Canada is undergoing a nearly unprecedented population boom — well in excess of three per cent annualized growth. The reason is clear: an unrivalled immigration surge that hit an inflow of almost 1.3 million people from other countries around the world in 2023. Without this, the civilian population would be in decline.

markets UPS Election Food President country Free ration leaving people with more food than they can consume: Rajnath Singh
Rajnath Singh on Wednesday claimed that under the free ration scheme, people were getting more foodgrains than they could consume and they ended up selling the surplus in the market. The former BJP president, who was addressing an election rally in Karakat Lok Sabha constituency of Bihar, also, cited figures to assert that the food inflation rate in the country was «the lowest in the world» and expressed dismay over allegations of price rise. «Are you not getting five kilogrammes of foodgrains each? I know if there are four members in a family, each is getting a supply of 5 kg and those who are not able to consume it, sell off the surplus,» Singh said with a chuckle, breaking into the local dialect Bhojpuri. Claiming that the central government has not done a favour to people by providing them with welfare measures like toilets and pucca houses, he said BJP people are in politics with the spirit of service.

UPS Election Food Trade India set for wheat imports after six years, to shore up reserves
India is poised to begin wheat imports after a six-year gap, to replenish depleted reserves and hold down prices that leaped following three years of disappointing crops, sources say, as the approaching end of general elections removes a key hurdle. New Delhi is expected to abandon a 40% tax on wheat imports this year, officials and other sources told Reuters, paving the way for private traders and flour millers to buy from producers such as top exporter Russia, albeit in modest volumes. As the new-season wheat harvest rolls in, the government is likely to wait until after June to scrap the import tax, in time for Russia's harvest, the sources said.

markets COST economy ICE Election Food Dalal St is likely pricing in a Modi 3.0 but election winners already have a bitter household burden
Prime Minister Narendra Modi — their preferred and expected outcome of the ongoing general election — and soaring corporate profits. They might be ignoring an all-too-important speed bump: consumer debt. A trifecta of slow wage growth, elevated interest rates, and heavy borrowing by the average household has weakened the spending impulse of more than 300 million families that drives 70% of gross domestic product. Equity markets aren’t too perturbed. Investors are betting on a post-election boom in private capital expenditure on the back of $534 billion in new infrastructure expected by Bloomberg Economics to come online by 2026, boosting India Inc.’s competitiveness and lifting the economy’s growth potential. More confident companies will also create better-paying jobs. Sooner or later, interest rates will start to decline, both at home and globally. Households’ financial crunch will ease. Bond investors’ thinking is not too dissimilar: Unlike his opponents, the prime minister isn’t promising a dramatic expansion of the welfare state. (According to him, he has already spent $400 billion on cash handouts and free food for the poor in the past 10 years.) Modi will instead borrow to expand productive capacity. A cautious fiscal stance and expectations of a stable currency make India’s rupee-denominated government notes attractive. Borrowing dollars to buy Asian bonds has been unprofitable almost everywhere this year. India has been a notable exception.

Waters Parke Hyundai Food Universities show rights Old empires could be the key to a new car future
Hydrogen is the most abundant substance in the universe, and a crucial element in the creation of our most precious resource: water. Initiatives outlined by carmakers last week are breathing new life into plans to use the gas as fuel. They’re also a reminder that making the world run on hydrogen will need considerable support from diversified businesses such as North Asia’s storied conglomerates. The most promising path to exploiting hydrogen is to store the gas in a tank, as you would gasoline, then feed it into a fuel cell where it combines with oxygen to create an electric current, with water as a byproduct. Put this in a car and you have a fuel-cell electric vehicle. Recently, industry has turned to green hydrogen, created by running an electric current through water with an electrolyte. The machines that do this are called electrolyzers, and like battery EVs, they are only truly green if the original electricity source comes from renewables. Parking an electrolyzer near a wind farm, solar array or hydroelectric dam would be ideal because you can use renewable energy to deliver clean electricity directly to the hydrogen-production facility. But the gas would still need to be transported to refueling stations, possibly through natural gas pipelines.
