Boeing Food Experts reports strain International The Boeing Starliner Saga left Sunita Williams struggling—But now comes her toughest mission yet
NASA released images of Sunita Williams and fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore stepping back onto solid ground, something was immediately clear—this mission had taken a visible toll. Williams, 59, looked noticeably thinner, her wrists appearing fragile, her hair greyer, her face more gaunt. Medical experts say these are telltale signs of the intense physiological strain that months in space can inflict. Williams and Wilmore were originally meant to spend just eight days on the International Space Station (ISS) after launching on June 5, 2024. But technical failures with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft turned their short trip into a 286-day marathon in microgravity. When they finally splashed down off the Florida coast, the effects were undeniable.

UPS Action Food Discrimination rights Sporting Enlightened choices
Happiness is ever elusive, yet, ever present — that's a dichotomy. One could just as easily be happy as sad. All it takes is a mental habit, a shift in attitude that begins with gratitude, capacity to perceive how we are placed even if we are suffering. While we are unhappy and sobbing, the tear ducts are working, air is available for gasps; 99% of our life is working fine. The 1% deprivation has caused pain. Once we realise that there is so much to be grateful for, it dawns on us that our job is to serve our fellow beings. Ask not what others can do for you, ask what you can do for others. This attitude of service is what brings unimaginable joy to our lives. Even if our daily actions are just the same, getting up, commuting, working, spending time with family or playing a sport, our joy is vastly enhanced by the sense of service. Asking others 'how I may help, what I could do for you, or suggesting we are all in this together to lift an individual's spirits' brings joy.

Waters Remark Food Research isolate Department strain IIT Guwahati researchers analyse Panitenga, identify bacterial strains with potential industrial applications
beneficial bacterial strains with potential industrial applications. Panitenga is a staple in Assamese cuisine, made by fermenting mustard seeds with acidic extracts from mangosteen, tamarind, or lime juice, the mixture is kneaded into a dough, wrapped in banana leaves, and left to ferment in bamboo containers for one to two weeks. This traditional preparation method not only enhances the flavour and texture but also promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria. While fermented foods are widely recognized for their probiotic benefits, such as aiding digestion and improving gut health, certain bacteria present in these foods also have the capability to produce valuable industrial chemicals or compounds. The research team at IIT Guwahati, led by Prof. Lalit Mohan Pandey, Associate Professor, Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, identified Bacillus subtilis SMP-2, as a significant bacterial strain present in Panitenga. This strain has the unique ability to produce biosurfactants, which are natural compounds with diverse industrial and environmental applications. Surfactants are substances that help mix materials that do not naturally combine, such as oil and water. They are commonly used in products such as soaps, detergents, and shampoos, allowing them to remove grease and dirt. Unlike chemical surfactants, which can be harmful to the environment, biosurfactants are biodegradable, eco-friendly, and effective even under extreme conditions.

Boeing Food SpaceX hospital testing travelers After nine months in zero gravity—Sunita Williams, Butch Wilmore prepare for a gravity-shocking return
NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry «Butch» Wilmore are set to return to Earth on 18 March after spending over nine months aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Their mission was extended due to propulsion issues with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, which was deemed unfit for their return journey. Instead, the astronauts will be flying back aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon, with splashdown expected near the Florida coast. Their journey home marks the end of an unusual mission. Williams and Wilmore had originally travelled to the ISS in June last year as part of the first crewed test flight of Boeing’s Starliner. However, multiple technical issues, including helium leaks and propulsion malfunctions, forced NASA to alter their return plans. The two astronauts were folded into the Crew-9 mission and had to wait for a safe return option.
