India's traditional beverage Goli Soda sees strong demand in US, Europe, Gulf
Goli Soda is witnessing strong consumer response in key international markets, including the US, UK, Europe, and the Gulf, driven by strategic expansion and innovative reinvention, an official statement said on Sunday. Under a strategic partnership with Fair Exports, India has ensured steady deliveries of Goli Soda, rebranded as Goli Pop Soda, to Lulu Hypermarket, one of the largest retail chains in the Gulf region, the commerce ministry's arm Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) said. «This iconic beverage, once a household staple, is making a remarkable comeback on the global stage, driven by its innovative reinvention and strategic international expansion,» it said, adding the product has already made strong inroads in global markets, with successful trial shipments to the USA, UK, Europe, and Gulf countries. The revival of this beverage, which had nearly disappeared due to the dominance of multinational beverage companies, marks a significant milestone in India's efforts to promote and export authentic, homegrown food and beverage products in the global markets, it said.

"Want to know the reason behind murder": Saurabh Rajput's parents appeal to PM Modi, Uttar Pradesh CM
Rajput's mother also demanded that they want to see their granddaughter and raise her, fearing for the child's safety. «I want justice, I want to give the death penalty to the culprits. I would like to appeal to PM Modi and CM Yogi (Adityanath) that a thorough investigation should be held in the case and justice should prevail. Whether the investigation happens through crime branch or CBI. I want to know each and everything, the reason behind the murder. What they talked about, why the fight happened, I want the solution to everything,» Rajput's mother told on Saturday. Saurabh Rajput was working in the merchant navy and was allegedly murdered by his wife and her partner Sahil on March 4. His body had been cut up and hidden in a drum, covering it with cement. Reportedly, Muskan's father, Pramod, played a crucial role in cracking the case. While taking Muskan to the police station, Pramod stopped the scooter and urged her to tell the truth. Muskan then confessed to the crime, revealing that she and her friend had killed Saurabh Rajput together.

Food processing ministry to give financial support for 100 new food testing labs: Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu
Ravneet Singh Bittu on Saturday said the Ministry of Food Processing Industries will provide financial support for the establishment of 100 new NABL-accredited food testing laboratories across India in the 2025-26 financial year. Bittu, who inaugurated a food testing laboratory at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University in Bathinda district, highlighted the critical role of food testing in ensuring food safety. «Food testing is vital for ensuring that food products meet safety standards and are free from harmful contaminants and pathogens,» Bittu said in a statement. The initiative is part of the government's broader plan under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), which has allocated Rs 503.47 crore for 205 laboratory projects. Of these, 169 projects have already been completed, with Rs 349.21 crore disbursed. These labs play a crucial role in meeting the requirements of major regulatory bodies such as the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), the Export Inspection Council of India (EIC), the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), and international agencies like the USFDA and EU regulations. Farmers and producers in sectors such as citrus fruits, green peas, cauliflower, carrots (both fresh and frozen), milk and milk products, basmati rice, wheat, millets like bajra and sorghum, mustard and sunflower oilseeds, and farm-produced shrimp will benefit from these state-of-the-art facilities, said Bittu, who is the Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries.

'Adopt or don't feed': Delhi resident calls dog-lovers the 'worst' and sparks debate on feeding strays
Delhi resident recently shared his frustration about dog lovers, expressing that if someone truly cares for dogs, they should adopt them rather than just feed them. His concerns arose after a stray dog bit his house help, a dog that his neighbour regularly feeds outside the Redditor’s doorstep. He took to social media to voice his opinion, warning about the risks associated with feeding stray dogs, particularly the threat of diseases they may carry. He highlighted that this was not the first time such an incident had occurred in his locality. Several housemaids and delivery personnel had already been bitten before, and in one unfortunate case, a woman lost her life due to a dog attack. The situation has left him deeply concerned about the safety of people in his building, especially those who rely on daily wages to support their families. The resident also pointed out the dangers of rabies, emphasizing that even with vaccinations, the disease remains fatal. He urged people to be more responsible when feeding stray dogs, suggesting that if they must provide food, they should do so away from residential areas to prevent the risk of attacks.

Inflation disparity explains South’s prosperity, subnational migration
Rupee billionaire MLAs. Cynics would explain this as an appalling display of power distance in a money-obsessed public life, but the South’s overwhelming representation in the HNI lawmakers’ club is as much a symbol of peninsular India’s broader prosperity as is the glaring regional disparity in staples-loaded retail inflation. In economic terms, the two pieces of data indicate the South’s burgeoning wealth effect – across the spectrum. India’s consumer inflation gauge, with a disproportionate rural weighting of basic food items and a still substantial urban weighting, has fallen below the 4% legal mandate in February to a seven-month low. However, a region-based analysis of inflation data indicates the South has averaged higher on the metric, presumably driven by demand, as those migrating from the less prosperous northern, eastern and central states seek toeholds in bustling economic hubs such as Coimbatore, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and Cochin. “The region-wise index share CAGR growth during FY12 to FY25 (until Feb 2025) indicates that the southern region has the highest CAGR inflation of 6% in overall inflation,” SBI Research said in a study that analysed inflation across states and federally administered areas over the past 14 years. Curiously, inflation in the South trended above the national average over the period in both rural and urban areas, indicating prosperity across the geographic spectrum – and possibly the impact of labour migration from the less economically advantaged states into even remote villages in the South – particularly the remittance-heavy Kerala.

Japan's core inflation hits 3% in February, keeps alive BOJ rate-hike bets
The data came in the wake of Bank of Japan (BOJ) Governor Kazuo Ueda's warning, made after its decision to keep interest rates steady on Wednesday, that rising food costs and stronger-than-expected wage growth could push up underlying inflation. The increase in the core consumer price index (CPI), which strips away the effect of volatile fresh food costs, compared with a median market forecast of a 2.9% gain. That kept core inflation above the BOJ's 2% target for the 35th straight month. It slowed from the previous month's 3.2% rise due largely to the resumption of subsidies to curb fuel costs, government data showed on Friday. A separate index that excludes the effects of both fresh food and fuel costs, closely watched by the BOJ as a broader price trend indicator, rose 2.6% in February from a year earlier after climbing 2.5% in January. It was the fastest year-on-year increase since March 2024, when it rose 2.9%.

Trump threatens Houthi rebels that they'll be 'completely annihilated' as airstrikes pound Yemen
Strikes hit Sanaa, Yemen's rebel-held capital, as well as their stronghold of Saada in the country's northwest on Wednesday night, the Houthi's al-Maisrah satellite news channel reported. It aired footage showing firefighters battling a blaze in Sanaa and damaged at what it described as a sheep farm in al-Jawf. It also said strikes happened overnight Tuesday, though the U.S. military has not offered a breakdown of places targeted since the airstrikes campaign began. The first strikes this weekend killed at least 53 people, including children, and wounded others. As the strikes hit, Trump wrote on his Truth Social website that «tremendous damage has been inflicted upon the Houthi barbarians.» «Watch how it will get progressively worse — It's not even a fair fight, and never will be,» Trump added. «They will be completely annihilated!»
