NoBroker's billion-dollar ascent, from physical threats to unicorn status
NoBroker, the online real estate platform, faced significant obstacles in its early days, including physical threats from traditional brokers angered by the company's disruptive business model, CEO Amit Kumar Agarwal revealed at the Technovate for India program in Bengaluru. In 2015, a group of brokers attacked NoBroker's office, assaulting employees and attempting to force their way into the building. This incident, Agarwal shared, forced the company to relocate overnight and keep their office locations unlisted on Google Maps for safety. Despite these challenges, NoBroker has grown significantly, now boasting a valuation of over $1 billion. “We’ve gone from zero to over 30 mn cumulative users and now add half a million new customers every year,” stated Agarwal at the event, organized by The Times of India and Talrop.

No hopes from MVA or Mahayuti, says Jarange Patil
Maratha reservation agitation, Manoj Jarange Patil, might have decided not to contest this time's elections, but he remains one of the key deciding factors in the Maharashtra poll landscape. Patil asked several of his supporters not to contest elections after many of them filled their nomination forms. He enjoys a cult-figure status among the old and young as many touch his feet and seek his guidance on whom they should vote. Sitting with ET, Patil maintains that he has «only one cause and that is for Marathas to get reservation. And his cause has united six crore Marathas across Maharashtra». When asked whether Mahayuti or MVA can support the Maratha cause, he responds «all are the same». He says he will step up his agitation after the election process gets over. «Let me make it clear to you. Neither am I supporting anyone nor opposing anyone. I have no hopes from anyone except my movement,» Patil said.

Ease of doing biz, investment options driving structural shift in banking system: SBI chairman
ease of doing business and digitalization are driving the structural shift in the domestic banking system while banks also in the last decade have not focused on deposits, SBI Chairman C S Setty said on Monday. «I think it is also a sign of a maturing investment climate and the digitalization, which has played an important role (in driving people to invest at places other than banks),» Setty said at a panel discussion on the 'role of young leaders for Viksit Bharat@2047' hosted by SBI here. He was responding to a question on the increasing concerns over deposit mobilization as more and more people are looking at other avenues of putting their money to use as opposed to bank deposits. Doing banking a few years ago was too much of a «pain» and investing in SIP was also not an easy task, the SBI chairman said.
