Toronto International Film Festival opened on Thursday with "The Boy and the Heron" by famed Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki, the first time an animated feature has taken the coveted spot. Although there was a dearth of star power on the red carpet due to the Hollywood actors strike, festival-goers can look forward to some 50 films over 11 days, including Craig Gillespie's «Dumb Money,» «Lee» which stars Kate Winslet and Taika Waititi's «Next Goal Wins». The festival will also include directorial debuts for Patricia Arquette with «Gonzo Girl» and for Kristin Scott Thomas with «North Star». Studio Ghibli executive Junichi Nishioka said it was an honour for «The Boy and the Heron» to have been chosen as the opener for the festival. «It shows that animation and live-action films don't need to be differentiated anymore,» he said. The film, a semi-autobiographical story of a young boy struggling with the death of his mother, is expected to Miyazaki's swan song. The 82-year-old director, known for works such as «Spirited Away» and «My Neighbor Totoro», did not attend the opening. The Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild- American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) have been on strike since May over pay and the use of artificial intelligence. «Gonzo Girl» stars Arquette, Camila Morrone and William Dafoe were among the few actors gaining union approval to promote their films. «I am lucky to be here, but a lot of people are unable to attend the festival,» Morrone told Reuters, calling the strike «essential» and stressing that it was important to be resolved. Over 150,000 actors and 65,000 writers across the United States have refused to resume shooting or promote films.

TOMY International Inc. has initiated a recall for its 'Boon Flair & Flair Elite highchairs due to safety concerns. These highchairs feared to have a detachment issue, were distributed throughout the United States and Canada. The voluntary recall was announced on August 31, 2023, in collaboration with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Health Canada, and TOMY International Inc.

Cashfree Payments, payments and API banking solutions company, has partnered with Jamboree, an educational consultancy, to simplify fee payments for Indian students studying overseas. The partnership leverages Cashfree Payments’ cross-border payment solution, which streamlines and digitises the entire payment process from KYC verification, payment collection, to outward remittance, an official release said. It further eliminates the need for physical bank visits, offline KYC submission and verification, providing students with a convenient, fast, cost-effective, and transparent payment experience, the release added.

Canada has extended a popular Covid relief measure for international students, allowing them to work in the country after graduation, even if they haven't completed their studies in the country. The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has extended the distance learning measures initially put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. These measures have significant implications for international students seeking a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). Under the extended guidelines, students who completed less than 50% of their PGWP-eligible studies outside of Canada will remain eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) until December 31, 2023. Before the pandemic, international students were required to ensure that no more than 50% of their studies were conducted online, and any time spent studying online outside of Canada did not count towards their PGWP eligibility. However, due to the restrictions on international travel brought about by the pandemic, IRCC had temporarily removed the online study restrictions for certain students. These students fall into two categories:

China's economic slowdown has alarmed international leaders and investors, as per CNN. For the first time in decades, the world's second economy is itself in trouble. Hong Kong's Hang Seng (HSI) Index slid into a bear market on Friday, having fallen more than 20 per cent from its recent peak in January. Aditya-L1 is India's first solar space observatory and will be launched by the PSLV-C57. It will carry seven different payloads to have a detailed study of the sun, four of which will observe the light from the sun and the other three will measure in-situ parameters of the plasma and magnetic fields. In an exclusive interview with ANI, the former astronaut Hadfield spoke about how the findings of the Aditya L-1 mission will impact human space flight. «So when we put something like Aditya L-1 up there in between us and the Sun to sense those things, to better understand how the sun works and the threats that it has to the earth, it's good for everybody for protecting us as people. But also, of course, our electrical grid, our internet grid, and all of the thousands of satellites that we count on that are up in orbit,» he said. Aditya-L1 will be placed in a halo orbit around Lagrangian Point 1 (or L1), which is 1.5 million km away from the Earth in the direction of the sun. It is expected to cover the distance in four months' time.

This figure notably surpasses the combined count of approximately 10,500 from the analogous period encompassing both 2019 and 2022. Concurrent enrolments, which permit students to simultaneously register for multiple courses, have become increasingly popular among international students. These modifications to student visa requirements and work access regulations underscore the government's commitment to maintaining a balanced and sustainable educational environment for international students in Australia.
