NATO’s boss wants to free Ukraine to strike hard inside Russia
Kharkiv, close to the border, to deny Ukraine the possibility of using these weapons against legitimate military targets on Russian territory makes it very hard for them to defend themselves." It has long been a source of frustration for Ukrainians that if they want to go after targets on Russian soil they must depend on home-produced drones, which have only limited utility. Their anger has been boiling over since May 10th, when the Russians began a big offensive across the border only 20 miles (32km) from Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-biggest city. It had been subject to pulverising aerial bombardment for several months before.

Successful J-K polls success of Modi govt policy; next step Assembly polls, statehood, Amit Shah tells PTI
Amit Shah has said that the Modi government's Kashmir policy has been vindicated by the successful polling in Jammu and Kashmir, where even separatists have voted «overwhelmingly», as he assured that the assembly elections in the region will be held before September 30. Once the elections are over, the government will start the process of restoring statehood to the Union Territory, Shah said in an interview to PTI late Saturday. «I have said in Parliament that we will give the statehood after the assembly elections,» he said, adding that everything is going according to plan, such as the surveys of the backward classes and delimitation exercise of the Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies. «We have completed the delimitation process. Because the reservation can be given only after the delimitation process is completed. Because we have to know about the status of various castes (to give reservation). That has been done. Lok Sabha election is also over (in Jammu and Kashmir). Next is the assembly election which will also be held. We will complete the process before the Supreme Court deadline,» he said.

Hamas representative denies new negotiations with Israel amid Gaza truce talks
Hamas representative Osama Hamdan has firmly rejected the notion of engaging in new negotiations with Israel, countering Israeli media reports suggesting a potential revival of talks for a Gaza truce, as reported by Al Jazeera. In a recent telephone interview with Al Jazeera Arabic, Hamdan emphasised that the priority lies in Israel's withdrawal from Gaza and the cessation of all hostilities. «We do not need new negotiations,» he asserted, underlining that Hamas had already acquiesced to a ceasefire proposal, which Israel had rebuffed.

News and other battles: Vinay Shukla on ‘While We Watched’
While We Watched, which premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival and won International Competition at DocPoint Helsinki 2023, follows Kumar between 2018 and 2020 at NDTV, a time when the channel and he were under fire from the government. It’s a thorough vérité document, rough around the edges, rather different from Shukla’s previous documentary, An Insignificant Man(2016), which tracked the rise of the Aam Aadmi Party. The buoyancy of that film is replaced by bleakness and pessimism, with Kumar targeted by right-wing trolls and seeing one colleague after another depart.

'India becoming Pakistan because of BJP mirroring partition logic': Tharoor on Giriraj Singh's reservation comment
Giriraj Singh's comment on Muslim reservation, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Friday launched a scathing attack on BJP by claiming that 'India becoming Pakistan is result of the party mirroring the logic of partition.' «In fact, the sad thing is, India becoming Pakistan is the result of the BJP mirroring the logic of partition...We want to see everyone included in the narrative of Indian progress. It is simply not fair for a minister to say India becoming Pakistan when one thing we stand for in the Indian alliance is the opposite of the logic that the BJP is pursuing which mirrors the logic of Pakistan,» said Tharoor. Earlier during the day, BJP leader Giriraj Singh claimed that reservation given to Muslims is an attack on Hindus. «The time has come that the reservations given to the Muslims should be rethought about. Reservation given to them is an attack on the Hindus...If all the Hindus do not unite & fight against the Muslim reservation then in the coming days India will become Pakistan...» said Singh.
