The new AI deal: buy everything but the company
Google. They said the tech giant moved too slowly. So they created Character.AI, a chatbot startup, and raised nearly $200 million. Last week, Shazeer and De Freitas announced that they were returning to Google. They had struck a deal to rejoin its AI research arm, along with roughly 20% of Character.AI's employees, and provide their startup's technology, they said. But even though Google was getting all that, it was not buying Character.AI.

Citizens can't be made to run from pillar to post in matters of life, liberty: SC on Sisodia bail
life and liberty which is one of the most sacrosanct rights guaranteed by the Constitution, the Supreme Court said on Friday. The apex court rejected the preliminary objection raised by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that AAP leader Manish Sisodia cannot be permitted to file second set of special leave petitions to challenge the Delhi High Court's May 21 verdict which denied him bail in the excise policy cases. While granting bail to Sisodia in the corruption and money laundering cases linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam, the top court noted the counsel appearing for probe agencies had argued that he should be relegated to approach the trial court afresh for seeking relief. A bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan referred to the apex court's June 4 order which had disposed of Sisodia's plea challenging the high court verdict. The top court had then said that Sisodia can revive his bail petitions after the ED and CBI file their final prosecution complaint and charge sheet respectively.

X's handling of UK riots could influence EU probe
European Commission investigation into social media platform X could take its handling of harmful content related to the recent UK riots into account, a spokesperson said. Last month, European Union officials issued charges against X, owned by tech billionaire Elon Musk, under the Digital Services Act (DSA), which requires very large online platforms to do more to tackle illegal content and risks to public security. While Britain has not been a member of the EU since 2020, harmful content in breach of DSA rules shared in Britain may have been seen by users in Europe, constituting a potential breach of the law.

Could Mars Have Harbored Life? NASA's stunning find in Jezero Crater reveals water, organic materials, and more
NASA's Perseverance rover raises the possibility that microbial life once existed on Mars. In the Jezero Crater, the rover discovered a mixture of organic materials, water, and a chemical energy source on a rock. The greatest proof of possible extraterrestrial life on the Red Planet has been found with this discovery, as per the reports of Yahoo news. For the past three years, Perseverance has been investigating the 28-mile-wide Jezero Crater. The rover discovered a rock known as "Cheyava Falls," which contains remains of organic materials, water, and perhaps even chemical reactions. The rock contains a crimson band full of «leopard spots,» which are probably the result of chemical reactions, and two vertical veins of calcium sulfate that were created by water.

Pakistani national with 'Iran ties' charged with plot to assassinate Donald Trump
Pakistani national with alleged ties to Iran has been charged with plotting to assassinate former United States President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and several other public officials. US attorney general Merrick Garland, who announced the charges against Pakistani national Asif Merchant on Tuesday, indicated without naming Trump that the target was the former president. According to a criminal complaint unsealed in Brooklyn federal court on Tuesday, Merchant, after spending time in Iran, flew from Pakistan to the US in April to recruit hitmen to carry out the alleged plot. The plot failed, as per the complaint, as the person Merchant had contacted was a confidential informant working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
