PM Modi announces 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' as 2025 yoga day theme
International Day of Yoga and said the day had taken «the shape of a grand festival». The United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga with an aim to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practising yoga. It was first celebrated in 2015. Sharing India's vision for a healthier world population in his monthly «Mann ki Baat» radio broadcast, Modi said, «The theme of yoga day, 2025, has been kept as 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'. That is, we wish to make the whole world healthy through yoga.» The prime minister noted that, alongside fitness, keeping a count was also becoming a habit, citing examples of people keeping tabs on the number of steps taken, calories consumed and burnt in a day. «Amid all these counts, another countdown is about to begin. The countdown to the International Day of Yoga. Now, less than 100 days are left for yoga day. If you have not yet included yoga in your life, do it now. It is not too late yet,» he said. Noting the first International Day of Yoga was celebrated 10 years ago, Modi said, «Now this day has taken the shape of a grand festival of yoga. This is such a priceless gift from India to humanity, which is going to be very useful for future generations.»

Potong: The Bangkok dining experience that feels like a story well told
chef Pam Pichaya Soontornyanakij's modern Thai-Cantonese storytelling. Diners eat inside a stunning Sino-Portuguese building where chef Pam's family lived and made traditional Chinese medicines for over 100 years. The space retains its charm and character. Dark molasses floors, exposed brick and jungle murals create a captivating blend of old and new, while a wall of medicinal brown bottles and kombucha-filled glass jars hints at Potong's alchemical artistry. Pam's philosophy rests on 5 elements — salt, acid, spice, texture and the Maillard reaction — each woven into an 11- course tasting menu. The dishes — modern interpretation of Pad Thai, a crab dish with roe, and duck — are beautifully composed, with bold yet familiar flavours, and presentations that avoid unnecessary frills.

Misleading Ads case: SC directs states to set up grievance mechanism for misleading medical ads, warns of strict action
Supreme Court on Wednesday directed all states and union territories to set up a grievance redressal mechanism for addressing complaints against misleading advertisements that «can cause great harm to society.” A Bench comprising Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan said that the 1954 Act against misleading advertisements of medicinal or other such products is more than 70 years old, it is yet to be properly implemented in its „letter and spirit“. It asked the state governments to create grievance redressal mechanisms in two months so that members of the public can lodge complaints about the objectionable advertisements prohibited under the Act, the court said, adding the grievance mechanism may provide for making complaints either on a toll free number or by email. “As soon as complaints are received, the same shall be immediately forwarded to the concerned officers to take action under the said provision. If the officer finds that there is a contravention, he shall lodge a complaint with the jurisdictional police station so that FIR is registered and criminal law is set in motion,” the court said. It asked the states to appoint in one month an adequate number of gazetted officers that have the power to search and seize any advertisements which have contravened provisions of the 1954 Act, which prohibits misleading advertisements.

India for a long time, often shares her observations on cultural differences between the two countries. In a recent video, she compared the healthcare systems of India and the USA, highlighting key differences in wait times, costs, and accessibility—points that many viewers agreed with. In India, a doctor’s visit costs between $7 and $17 (approximately ₹600 to ₹1,500), whereas in the USA, it ranges from $150 to $600 (₹13,000 to ₹51,000). The cost of a one-night hospital stay is about $3,000 (₹2.56 lakh) in the USA, while in India, it is under $80 (₹7,000). Medical insurance in the USA costs between ₹68,000 and ₹1.28 lakh per month, compared to India, where it ranges from ₹2,000 to ₹5,000.

Top US university John Hopkins says ending 2,000 positions due to Donald Trump cuts
Johns Hopkins University said Thursday it is being forced to lay off more than 2,000 employees in the aftermath of the Trump administration's massive reduction in foreign aid funding. «This is a difficult day for our entire community. The termination of more than $800 million in USAID funding is now forcing us to wind down critical work here in Baltimore and internationally,» the school, a leading institution of scientific research, said in a statement. Hopkins, in Maryland's largest city an hour's drive north of the US capital, is eliminating more than 2,000 positions — 1,975 in projects across 44 countries and 247 jobs in the United States. The cuts impact several key programs, including the university's medical school and school of public health, and Jhpiego, a global health non-profit organization founded at the university more than 50 years ago and which works to improve health in countries worldwide. «Johns Hopkins is immensely proud of the work done by our colleagues in Jhpiego, the Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the School of Medicine to care for mothers and infants, fight disease, provide clean drinking water, and advance countless other critical, life-saving efforts around the world,» the university said.

Indian generic drugs linked to deaths in US? Trade group slams study blaming desi pharma
generic drugs to a higher risk of serious side effects in the US has drawn backlash from the industry’s most influential lobby group, as India moves to defend its dominant market share amid trade tensions under President Donald Trump. The study, which analyzed more than 2,400 drugs sold in the US between 2009 and 2018, found that Indian generics were associated with a 54% greater risk of serious adverse events — including hospitalization, disability, and death — compared with equivalent domestically made medicines. The research links operations and supply chain issues in the manufacturing process as “most likely” explaining the findings. Published last month in the journal Production and Operations Management, the findings prompted a three-page statement from the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance, which represents two dozen of the country’s largest drugmakers.
