Why Gautam Duggad is overweight in IT & private bank stocks; down to neutral in consumption
Gautam Duggad, Head Of Research, Director — Institutional Equities, Motilal Oswal, says in consumption stocks, they are down from big overweight to neutral. They are more positive on IT, private banks, real estate and industrials, where they have increased weight. They used to be significantly overweight on consumer discretionary in our model portfolio for the last three years. But even there, they have cut some weights. They used to hold 11 consumption stocks, out of which 9 were discretionary till July. Now, that is down to 6 or 7. On the other hand, in private banks, they are overweight after two years and Tech, they have gone overweight in July. In October, they made it even bigger overweight. What about the underperforming pockets. Pretty much all of consumption has been subpar, as per Street anticipation. Do you think much of the pain is in the price, especially for some of the paint and FMCG categories and do they now become attractive buys or is the pain going to linger on for the next few quarters? Gautam Duggad: Consumption is a very broad ocean now. It is no longer just FMCG. You have at least 10 sub-categories in discretion apart from staples. Staples have clearly slowed down and the signs were visible even a few quarters back when we were seeing urban growth coming off. Today, we are in a situation where as per the Nielsen or some other syndicate data which has come out a couple of days back, the urban growth has come down with just 2.8% at a very top-down industry level, which was 11% a year back.

'Baywatch' actress Pamela Anderson reacts to her 'The Naked Gun' co-star Liam Neeson's love confession
Liam Neeson praised Pamela Anderson, she reacted by outlining why he is «the perfect gentleman» to work with. The ‘Love Actually’ star was all praise for Anderson, calling her absolutely “terrific” as a co-actor. Earlier this year, iconic actors reunited to film a reboot of the classic cop comedy The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!—a fresh take on the beloved 1988 original, which famously starred Leslie Nielsen. Neeson plays Drebin Jr. in the future film The Naked Gun, which is presently scheduled for release in 2025. It is assumed that Neeson is the son of Frank Drebin from the 1988 film. Although Anderson's part has not yet been made public, it is certain that she will appear in at least a few scenes alongside Neeson, who disclosed his experience working with the Baywatch star in an interview with People. In response, Anderson praised Neeson as an actor who 'brings out the best in you' and not only that but does it 'with respect, kindness, and depth of experience'. The 57-year-old said Neeson 'sincerely looked after' her, recalling moments where he 'wrapped his coat around [her] when [she] was cold,' resolving he's the 'perfect gentleman'. She added: «It was an absolute honor to work with him.» While Neeson was worried whether he could pull off comic scenes, Anderson was quick to assure him. The actress branded Neeson 'humble' and said: «It was hard to keep a straight face in scenes together.»

Netflix's efforts to grow ad tier in focus as subscriber growth slows
Netflix likely added the fewest number of subscribers in five quarters during April-June as sharp gains following a crackdown on password sharing ebbed and viewer attention moved to summer sporting events including the Euro soccer tournament. The company added an estimated 4.82 million subscribers in the second quarter, according to LSEG data. That would be the lowest additions since the first quarter of 2023 and about half the 9.3 million it added in the previous three months.

FMCG companies to see muted demand in June quarter, recovery likely in H2
Demand for daily groceries, essentials and household products will likely be muted in the current quarter, global research firm Kantar said, but it indicated a rural-led recovery in the second half of FY25 even though urban consumption could remain a relative straggler. Overall volumes, which indicate the number of products consumers bought, expanded 5.2% in the March quarter, unchanged from the three months to December. Sales volumes in rural markets climbed 5.8%, and in cities by 4.7%, from a year earlier, data from Kantar showed. Kantar monitors branded and unorganised products, including unpackaged voluminous commodities. Nielsen, on the other hand, tracks primarily branded retail sales. «There was significant inflation that led to shrinkflation, or consumers downgrading. But the worst is behind us and there is visibility of better growth,» said Saugata Gupta, managing director, Marico. «There will obviously be volume improvement although there will be some pricing growth as well. We definitely see a double-digit revenue growth.»
