Paramount Pictures debuted the first poster for Ridley Scott's 'Gladiator II' on Monday. The film is scheduled for release on November 22. Paul Mescal stars as Lucius, who is seen preparing for battle. The story is a follow-up to Scott's 2000 historical epic, 'Gladiator', which won five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe.

In 'Gladiator II', Mescal plays Lucius, the son of Lucilla, portrayed by Connie Nielsen. Lucilla is the second daughter of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. The story is set years after the original film. Lucius, now a grown man, is the nephew of Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix. Commodus killed his father to seize the throne.
In the first 'Gladiator', Commodus faced Maximus in the gladiator ring. Though mortally wounded, Maximus killed the emperor before dying and reuniting with his slain wife and son. Maximus saved Lucius and his mother, leaving a lasting impression on the young boy. This sequel explores Lucius' journey as an adult.
