Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Thursday announced that the Blue Line services would be disrupted throughout he day due to cable theft between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar stations. DMRC said that passengers could expect delays on one of the busiest lines because of the incident. In a statement, the corporation said that the issue would only be resolved after operational hours, leading to restricted train speeds during the day.

Delhi Assembly Speaker and Shahdra MLA Ram Niwas Goel on Thursday announced his retirement from electoral politics in a letter written to Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Goel (76) cited his age as the reason for withdrawing from the electoral fray, however, he assured Kejriwal to continue serving the party. The two-time MLA's retirement, ahead of the Delhi Assembly election, comes as a major blow for AAP.

Indian Navy a unique operational capability, but also lift the defence manufacturing ecosystem, with a breakthrough moment expected for the 'Make in India' initiative within the next five years, Navy chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi said. Adm Tripathi said the plan for the project (estimated to cost ₹35,000 crore for the first two boats) is likely to be in line with the construction of India's nuclear missile submarines (SSBNs) in which the Navy had the lead on design and took assistance of the defence industry in manufacturing.

Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its judgment on a bail plea by former Trinamool minister Partha Chatterjee in a money laundering case filed by Enforcement Directorate in an alleged cash-for-jobs scam. A bench of justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan observed that Chatterjee cannot claim parity with co-accused since they were not ministers. «On the face of it, you are a corrupt person. What message do you want us to send to society? That corrupt persons can get bail like this?,» justice Kant verbally told the counsel for the former education minister. The bench also found no force in the contention raised by Chatterjee's counsel that former ministers in other money laundering cases have been granted bail by the top court.

US services sector activity slowed in November after posting big gains in recent months, but remained above levels consistent with solid economic growth in the fourth quarter. The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) said on Wednesday that its nonmanufacturing purchasing managers index (PMI) slipped to 52.1 last month after surging to 56.0 in October, which was the highest level since August 2022. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the services PMI easing to 55.5. A PMI reading above 50 indicates growth in the services sector, which accounts for more than two-thirds of the economy. The ISM views PMI readings above 49 over time as generally indicating an expansion of the overall economy.

Rajya Sabha Wednesday passed The Boilers Bill, 2024 which seeks to repeal the century old Boilers Act, 1923 and decriminalise seven offences to promote ease of doing business. The Bill would provide for the regulation of boilers, safety of life and property of persons from the danger of explosions of steam-boilers and uniformity in registration. The Union Cabinet had cleared the bill in August. “The Boiler Bill, in a way, keeps the country safe and secure. It provides for a clear and transparent regulatory mechanism and sets accountability,” said commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal.

A decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet to amend the existing law on beef consumption to incorporate the new provisions. «We have decided to ban serving and consumption of beef in restaurants, hotel and public places,» Sarma said. «In Assam, we have decided that beef will not be served in any restaurant or hotel, nor will it be allowed in any public function or public place. Earlier, our decision was to stop eating beef near temples, but now we have expanded it to the entire state. You will not be able to eat it in any community or public space, hotel, or restaurant,» said the Assam Chief Mnister.
