AI Tool detects prostate cancer more accurately than doctors, UCLA study
AI tool may spot prostate cancer with 84% accuracy, according to a UCLA research, outperforming doctors who had a 67% accuracy rate. Unfold AI, an AI program created by Avenda Health, visualizes the possibility of cancer by analyzing clinical data using an algorithm. Seven urologists and three radiologists tested this tool—which was just approved by the FDA—by looking for leftover cancer in 50 cases of removed tumors. After doing the same study again, the AI found a far greater «negative margin rate,» which indicates a smaller chance of cancer being left behind, as per the reports of Fox news.

Fruit bats are the usual reservoir of the virus, and humans can become infected by accidentally consuming bat-contaminated fruits. When the first outbreak was recognised in Malaysia and Singapore, most human infections had resulted from direct contact with sick pigs or their contaminated tissues. "Transmission is thought to have occurred via unprotected exposure to secretions from the pigs, or unprotected contact with the tissue of a sick animal," the WHO said.Later, the outbreaks in Bangladesh and India was most likely caused by consumption of fruits or fruit products contaminated with urine or saliva from infected fruit bats.Human-to-human transmission of the Nipah virus has also been reported among families and caregivers of infected patients.

Court asks surgeon to pay Rs 12 lakh compensation to patient for botched Hernia surgery in Tamil Nadu
Rasipuram has been ordered by the Namakkal district consumer disputes redressal commission (NCDRC) to compensate a patient with Rs 12 lakh within four weeks for a botched hernia surgery. This ruling was made on Tuesday regarding a case filed by M Raja, a 52-year-old resident of Rasipuram, detailing the negligence he faced during a surgery conducted in August 2021 by Dr. Ramesh at a private hospital in Rasipuram. In August 2021, M Raja consulted Dr. Ramesh at a private hospital after being diagnosed with a hernia. Dr. Ramesh recommended immediate surgery, which was estimated to cost Rs 60,000. However, complications arose during the surgery due to a shortage of carbon dioxide gas necessary for the procedure, causing it to be halted midway. When the required gas was acquired, the surgery resumed, but complications persisted as Raja regained consciousness due to the waning effect of anesthesia during the delay. «I felt great pain during the surgery but the nurses pinned me down to complete the surgery even though I asked them to stop,» Raja recounted.

Plastic surgeries not painful or expensive: AIIMS doctors bust myths
plastic surgery trend grows, concerns over associated myths loom larger. Doctors at AIIMS Delhi have debunked several misconceptions about plastic surgery, emphasising that enhancing one's appearance through these procedures is neither as dangerous nor as painful as commonly believed. They highlighted advancements in anaesthetic techniques that have markedly reduced the discomfort typically associated with such surgeries. A major misconception is that plastic surgery involves a lot of pain. According to the doctors, facial surgeries are generally painless, although procedures like liposuction and abdominoplasty may cause more discomfort. However, advancements in anaesthetic drugs and pain management techniques have made these surgeries much less painful than perceived. Dr. Maneesh Singhal, professor and head of the plastic, reconstructive, and burns surgery department, told The Times of India that AIIMS Delhi sees a significant number of cosmetic surgeries, performing around 25-30 procedures every month. «These surgeries encompass a wide range of treatments, including scar correction, liposuction, gynecomastia, platelet-rich plasma therapy, and rhinoplasty. Most people opting for cosmetic surgery at AIIMS are in the 25-35 age bracket,» he said.

At least 33 major health insurance companies join govt's centralised claims-related info exchange
health insurance companies in India, at least 33 have joined the National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX), a centralized platform developed by the government for the exchange of insurance claims-related information, ToI reported on July 15. This new system aims to expedite the insurance claims process and make it more transparent, with real-time access to claims settlement status by the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India (IRDAI). Citizens will also be able to monitor their insurance claim status through their mobile devices, the report (by Durgesh Nandan Jha) said. Currently, insurance claims are processed through multiple platforms, leading to delays. The implementation of NHCX will streamline this process. According to government sources, some companies have already started trialing the NHCX for claims processing, with an official launch expected soon. A senior official of the National Health Authority (NHA), which developed the centralized platform, elucidated, «Citizens will also be able to see the status of their insurance claim through the mobile.»
