WhatsApp wellness performer International Congress fired even heavyweight CMs in the past, Siddaramaiah’s chair is shaky: Basavaraj Bommai
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s position has become shaky because of the internal confusions in the ruling Congress as well as the non-performance of the government over the past year, former Chief Minister and BJP Lok Sabha member (Haveri) Basavaraj Bommai said on Tuesday. Triggering instability while claiming everything was hunky dory was part of politics. This situation has now led to leaders openly expressing a desire to occupy the CM’s chair, the senior BJP leader told the media at Gadag, a major town in his Lok Sabha constituency. The jostling among the Congress leaders had given the impression that the coveted post has become unstable. «While they claim everything is fine, internally there is political backstabbing,» Bommai said, referring to how some of the heavyweights in the Congress party were removed overnight. He gave the examples of the way the late leaders, Veerendra Patil, D Devaraj Urs, R Gundu Ro and S Bangarappa were shown the door despite being formidable leaders with a large following. This kind of politics would continue, he said.

According to a recent ABC News/Ipsos survey, which was released on Sunday, Harris led Trump among all adults and registered voters 50 per cent to 46 per cent. Harris had a 52 per cent to 46 per cent advantage over Trump among likely voters. The results are comparable and statistically unchanged from an August poll, according to pollsters. Before the convention, an ABC News, Washington Post, and Ipsos poll found that among registered voters, Harris had 49% support and Trump had 45%. Everybody's eyes were on the polls that were made public after the Democratic National Convention last month to see if the vice president would gain ground after the convention, as some candidates have in the past. Starting on August 23, the day following the convention's last night, a poll was conducted. Pollsters noted that Harris widened the gender gap, even though most of the numbers were essentially unchanged from before the Democratic convention. Regarding women, Harris had a 13-point advantage (54% versus 41%), while Trump had a 5-point advantage (51% versus 46%). According to pollsters, Harris had a 6-point advantage over women before the convention.

Digital WhatsApp show performer reports NPA provisions continue to rise sequentially in Q2 amid seasonal weakness
loan loss provisioning by publicly listed banks in the June quarter increased to a four-quarter high led by a select banks including public sector banks (PSBs) such as State Bank of India (SBI) and Central Bank of India and private sector banks such as Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Bandhan Bank. The sequential increase can be attributed to seasonal weakness in collections and higher delinquencies in the retail segment. For a sample of 29 banks, provisioning for non performing assets (NPAs) reached Rs 25,737.1 crore in the June 2024 quarter. On a sequential basis, these provisions rose by 11.3%, following an 18.3% increase in the previous quarter. markets UPS Citi Target Digital Metro performer What’s making Bernstein’s Jignanshu Gor bet on retail, and restaurant over staples?
Jignanshu Gor, Group Analyst, Bernstein SocGen, believes that discretionary spending is waiting to grow at the bottom of the pyramid or in the middle of the pyramid and outside of metro cities. It is not just a metro story. It is a story of the affluent, in both urban and rural India. The recovery for the discretionary from a narrative perspective is going to happen in the next 12 to 18 months, which makes him confident of the prospects of this sector itself. At a time when people are looking at staples, talking about rural recovery, monsoon, election, and all of that, you have initiated coverage on urban discretionary stocks, which were well for the last couple of years. What makes you sanguine about retail, and restaurant over staples? Jignanshu Gor: If I look at how the discretionary spending in India is construed today, the coverage for the sector across retailers, and restaurants, including digital and offline, is restricted to the top 10% of the population. We think that as the increasingly affluent people, both in the top of the pyramid and the middle of the pyramid, are looking to express themselves, that is being expressed in eating out and buying trendier clothes.
