WhatsApp has started rolling out a new HD video sharing feature for Android users, after earlier introducing support for high-resolution images. Traditionally, WhatsApp had used compression for all videos shared on its platform which leads to a reduction in video quality. This new update, however, allows users to opt for high-resolution video sharing, which would be a significant shift in user experience. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has unveiled its finalized regulatory framework for stablecoins. China have resulted in India's steel exports falling by a third, but local producers will have a limited impact given robust sales in the domestic markets, experts said. Domestic demand will also help in keeping the price of the alloy stable in the country, they said. China’s steel exports, including to India, have seen a sharp jump in recent months. Its shipments to India, for instance, hit a multi-year high in the June quarter. Chinese mills are also reported to be undercutting other steel producers in terms of prices. This, in turn, has had an impact on exports by Indian steel companies, with countries in the Middle East and Vietnam buying more steel from China. India exported 780,000 tonnes of finished steel and billets a month on average between January and July, as against an average of 1.08 million tonnes a year earlier, data from market intelligence platform SteelMint show.

Editors Guild of India on Sunday voiced concerns over the decision of the Karnataka government to set up a fact-checking unit to monitor "fake news" on social media platforms. The Guild insisted that efforts to check such content have to be by independent bodies that are not under the sole purview of the government lest they become tools to clamp down on voices of dissent. Any such monitoring framework should follow principles of natural justice, including giving prior notice, right to appeal and judicial oversight, the Guild said in a statement here. It said such fact-checking units should also be set up with due consultation and involvement of all stakeholders, including journalists and media bodies, so that press freedom is not tampered with. The Guild has already filed a petition in the Bombay High Court, challenging the amendments to the IT Rules 2023 that allow the setting up of a 'fact-checking unit' under which the executive will have the sole authority to determine what is fake and the powers to order content take-down.
