His administration expanded those programmes and used them to their fullest extent, pressing on with cancellation even after the Supreme Court rejected Biden's plan for a new forgiveness policy.

The new deadline, now in mid-June, was viewed by US Steel — and investors — as an opportunity for the companies to complete the acquisition, even though President-elect Donald Trump, who takes office in a week, also opposes the deal.

Biden speaks with relatives of Americans held by Taliban but deal to bring them home still elusive
Joe Biden spoke on with relatives of three Americans the US government is looking to bring home from Afghanistan but no agreement has been reached on a deal to get them back, family members said. Biden's call with family members of Ryan Corbett, George Glezmann and Mahmood Habibi took place in the waning days of his administration as officials try to negotiate a deal that could bring them home in exchange for Muhammad Rahim, one of the remaining detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Corbett, who had lived in Afghanistan with his family at the time of the 2021 collapse of the US-backed government, was abducted by the Taliban in August 2022 while on a business trip and Glezmann, an airline mechanic from Atlanta, was taken by the Taliban's intelligence services in December 2022 while travelling through the country. Officials believe the Taliban is still holding both men as well as Habibi, an Afghan American businessman who worked as a contractor for a Kabul-based telecommunications company and also went missing in 2022. The FBI has said that Habibi and his driver were taken along with 29 other employees of the company but that all except for Habibi and another person have since been freed.

Will Vice President-elect JD Vance skip Inauguration Day to support Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff ?
Vice President-elect JD Vance, a staunch supporter of Ohio State University and a proud alumnus, has humorously hinted at a potential scheduling conflict as he prepares for his upcoming inauguration. With the Buckeyes set to face Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff National Championship, Vance joked about prioritizing his alma mater over his official duties, as mentioned in a report by New York Post. The clash of events—Ohio State’s championship game and the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump and Vance on January 20—has become the subject of light-hearted banter.

Say No to Olaf Scholz: Elon Musk ahead of Germany's snap elections

His statement comes after Germany's ruling Social Democrats (SPD) on Saturday announced Scholz as the party's candidate for federal elections set to take place on December 23. Musk made the statement on X in response to two news reports — one about SPD nominating Scholz for German Chancellor again and another June 24 report that said that a woman convicted of «offending» migrant gang rapists receives longer prison sentences than the rapists.
