The mystery of Russia’s ‘Spy Whale’ revealed: Everything you need to know
When the whale was first discovered in April 2019 wearing a harness with a camera mount, speculation arose that he might have been involved in covert activities. The equipment, labeled «Equipment St. Petersburg,» fueled theories that the whale was connected to Russian intelligence. Norwegians named the whale Hvaldimir, combining hval (Norwegian for whale) with Vladimir, after Russian President Vladimir Putin. The BBC recently released a documentary, Secrets of the Spy Whale, which “explores the mystery of the strange whale and asks where he came from, who trained him, and why he was operating near critical Arctic waters close to Russia.” The film features “exclusive interviews and previously unseen footage,” diving into the covert world of marine mammal training and international espionage while revealing new insights into Hvaldimir, the so-called “Spy Whale.”

Tuesday judgement for Donald Trump? Will courts dictate US President's tenure?
Donald Trump's resounding election victory, a Manhattan judge is poised to decide whether to uphold the hush money verdict or dismiss it because of a U.S. Supreme Court decision in July that gave presidents broad immunity from criminal prosecution, as per a report. Judge Juan M Merchan has said he will issue a written opinion Tuesday on Trump's request to toss his conviction and either order a new trial or dismiss the indictment entirely, AP reported. Merchan had been expected to rule in September, but put it off «to avoid any appearance» he was trying to sway the election. His decision could be on ice again if Trump takes other steps to delay or end the case.

In South America, Trump already losing a trade battle with China
White House will find itself already on the losing side in a trade battle with China, part of a bigger power realignment around the resource-rich region in Washington's backyard. Peru, the world's no. 2 copper exporter, is set to host Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders this week, with China's President Xi Jinping expected to attend and inaugurate a major new Chinese-built port in the country. Outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden is also on the guest list. Peru reflects a wider challenge for the White House around South America, where China's presence has grown rapidly given its huge appetite for the region's main exports: corn, copper, soy, beef and battery-metal lithium.
